Have been extremely disappointed with mileage Ive been getting. Less than 1500 miles driven so far, but getting 13.5-16 mpg on highway Normal to ECO mode. No excessive speed, not heavy on the throttle. Have changed rims/ tires to Method 703 with Falken AT4W 285/70/r17 and have changed Rock Rails out to CBI offroad rails and added Prinsu rack. Have been using Regular gas and Adaptive Cruise control. Have most of other warning systems turned off. wondering if something not set correctly on my TH.. Wondering if other TH owners are having similar discoveries. Should we create a TH Forum?

You've got a giant parachute on the roof, dude... Of course it's gonna get shitty mileage.

It was getting horrible MPG before I put the rack on.. MPG hasnā€™t really changed since that addition..

So I have been disappointed too with MPG. I have Prinsu, KUAT bedrack, Decked and a Weboost antenna that all incorporate drag to the outer mold line. I did an experiment where I went on a long trip and calculated MPG by the odometer. I found that was getting about 80 miles per quarter of a tank with a total of 320 per tank without tapping into the full reserve. I had about 15 miles left on the traditional ā€œmiles left gaugeā€ that I have found hasnā€™t been totally accurate and does calculations in real time. I have about 7500 miles so far. The TH is legit in off-road settings and the compressor and inverter work as advertised. The Decked system is a must and was an easy install too.

I agree the mpg on the TH are kinda of a disappointment. Iā€™m averaging 15 to a little over 17 mpg in stop and go traffic. I was told it will get better with more miles due to the transmission learning my driving habits. I have 2600 on mine so far and I think it might be ever slightly improving or maybe Iā€™m driving nicer because the newness of the truck and turbo noises wearing off. Lol. I removed the roof rack and sold it. I donā€™t think it made much difference either way. We start a TH forum. Iā€™m sure there is a lot to compare and question that someone might know the answers too.

Do you have a profile on Fuelly? Iā€™d like to look at your logs.

My lifetime average in my TH was 19.1 until winter. Itā€™s now lifetime 18.7.

Have had it since July.

not sure why itā€™s so variable for some. Iā€™ve driven a lot of hybrids before though.

Same, my TH gets about 16.5 mpg in ECO mode & driving the speed limit. I tried regular gas (87) & premium (93) but no change in MPG. I do have a roof
rack & wonder if thatā€™s causing the low MPG? Anyone driving a TH without the roof rack on ECO mode? Whatā€™s your mpg?

about 1500 miles on my TH. Was averaging about 16.5mpg. Seen someone on here posted they got better mpg in sport mode than eco. Iā€™ve been running sport mode for the last couple hundred miles and in the freeway Iā€™m now averaging 22.5. This in on 87octan.

I don't have a TH, but my offroad taco was getting about 15 mpg as well for the first couple thousand miles. After about 4 or 5k miles it had settled around 20mpg until winter where it is 19. I have a clean truck though. Only added a tonneau cover and have oem tires. 16 with the extra stuff doesn't sound too far off.

I assume your 285/70/17 are the standard loads at 53 pounds? I get 18.5 very consistently with the Falken 275/70/18 at 60.3 pounds. Before the Falkens I got 20mpg. But no other mods aside from the diamondback, and definitely no rack to catch the extra wind.

I do use 91 octane.

Yes on TH forum.

On another note - does anyone with a TH who has swapped to E load tires find the combination of E tires (stiffer sidewalls) with the stiffer TH springs to be a crappy combination for ride quality over dirt / bumpy roads and potholes etc?

I own the 2024 Tacoma SR Xtracab 4x4 and with just under 1000 miles since I purchased it December 19,2024 I have been getting 24 mpg. I have radials on steel wheels. I have not installed the SmartCap EVO Defender and Bed Slide S yet but expect to lose 2 mpg with the xtra weight. I also have that air dam under my bumper that I have yet to remove but will once a full face Bumper is available for purchase for GEN 4

Also guys - the TH is 5400 pounds before you even sit inside of it or do a single mod, and has almost 16ā€ of running clearance in many spots with no air dam. If youā€™re getting over 18 I think itā€™s remarkable and impressive. I know guys with Ranger raptors getting 11.

Ooooā€”hello fellow Hunter.

Iā€™ve got my finger shaking over the order button on a Kuat/decked system myselfā€¦ Iā€™ve been back and forth over decked vs retrax pro XR.

I snooped and saw you don't have a build thread, would love to see photos and ask you a few questionsā€” iā€™ll send you a DM to not derail this thread.

On the topic of this thread:

My stock no roof-rack TH currently sits at 13.6 average on the dash.

Not much highwa in my day to day, but I did buy the truck in NH and drive it 1600 miles home in that average. I sit at about 3k miles now.

I drive with my foot to the floor most the time (sorry, i like boostšŸ˜—), a lot of low speedzone stuff around town though too, and the battery thankfully does a fair bit of the duty.

The milage doesn't surprise me; but coupled with the tank size, it will definitely be an issue on longer tripsā€¦ going to need a lot of fuel cans/stopsā›½
