Found the answer re: Auto LSD

"Tacomas with rear-wheel drive feature an automatic limited-slip differential (Auto LSD), and four-wheel-drive models have an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case with high/low range along with Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) and an automatic limited-slip differential (Auto LSD). An electronic locking rear differential is standard on TRD PreRunner, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter grades. The new and luxurious Limited grade now features a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a center locking differential on i-FORCE MAX models."

Off Road offers the Sway Bar Disconnect. And it works anytime under 18mph. But if your not off-road often or occasionally have difficult situations the Sport seems plenty capable?

The off road had all the same Toyota Safety Sense the sport had. Sport was appearance package.
Exactly. Sport has the color matched fender flares which I like over the black ones. Sure, you can get them painted, but they come from the factory color matched already. I am never going to rock crawl with my truck, so the sport was a good option with it having the nicer looking hood and color matched fender flares.

I looked at both, but decided on the Sport since I'm not doing any hardcore off-roading. 4wd in the Sport is more than adequate for any light off-roading I might do and I like the ride and drive better on the Sport. I went through the specs and differences are about what you would expect.

Sport:
- color matched wheel flares and door handles
- hood scoop
- street oriented suspension tuning. (I assume they use digressive valving in the shocks to give it a firmer feel at the start of the suspension travel and then soften up as it goes.)
- 18 inch wheels and street tires

Off Road:
- black wheel flares and door handles
- off road oriented suspension tuning. (I'm assuming they are using progressive coils like the 3rd gens to give it softer ride over small bumps and firm up as it goes through the suspension travel.)
- Bilstein piggyback reservoir shocks
- 17 inch wheels and all terrain tires
- additional composite skid plates
- rear locker
- crawl control
- optional front sway bar disconnect

The 360 cameras are available on both as a part of the premium package, but may have different features. I had a 2nd gen off road and a 3rd gen off road and two 3rd gen sports. I've never needed the off road features and just like the ride and drive of the sport. If you're off-roading a lot, the TRD Off Road is a no brainer. If you're like me and spend most of your time on the highway with some occasional trips off the beaten patch, you might prefer the TRD Sport. I drove both in the 4th gen and just really preferred the drive and ride of the Sport. I'd recommend driving both if you have the opportunity.

same as above, I'm 95% on road and the handling characteristics is way better on the sport than OR. If I did more than the occasional fire road/camping sure OR is easy no brainer, but I commute and pretty much drive all over the city for work. The sport covers pretty much everything I require and sad to say, non functioning hood scoop and painted fenders/door handles sold me. And once in 4wd, pretty much goes everywhere I need when the pavement ends. YMMV

It's the MAX 😎😍!!

Originally had ordered a 2025 6ft Sport premium in wind chill pearl (non-hybrid)...and it finally came in...I looked at it, drove it...but did not end up buying it. I really stewed over it, and at the end of the day it just didn't feel like the right truck to buy. Felt like a compromise for me. What bugged me the most were the Sport wheels and tires. They are so dang hideous, and the factory tires are hot garbage. After researching out prices of new tires and rims...I was well over $4000 (CAD) to equip the Sport with a proper set of wheels. And with 🇨🇦's peso being crap...the price of tires and rims/accessories are astronomical.

I had found this 2024 Off Road Hybrid...and although black is not my 1st choice color (it's actually silver, which sadly isn't available on many tacoma models!!)...I showed up on a Saturday morning and bought it, didn't even do a test drive LOL. And I love it! It is, I believe, the ultimate sweet spot model...has all the options, off road chops, the Max drivetrain, proper tires and wheels, and the shorter box which will likely be more wide-scale appealing when resale time comes. Since purchasing it, I have learned that the Hybrid Max models have wider 8 inch rims, larger brake discs, larger brake calliper pistons, and a larger 9.5 inch rear diff! Amazing! It's such a cute wittle truck! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Fantastic looking truck, good luck and many happy miles, my choice was same as yours…i went Bronze oxide , only thing i realy pushed my dealer for was the SDM system, he got it for me 2 weeks ago…….
Now son is ordering a TRD Offroad, Black. He also was between sport and offroad, I told him order what you want but look at each truck and what you get for $ 200 dollar difference ? He said dad. The offroad comes with more , …yes… the only thing i like about sport is the Hood scoop ….yes ……i agree, he ordered an offroad……….
Side note. I read or overheard , the tundra is dropping the sport package..perhaps this will effect future taco models, and maybe its dropped who knows how toyota thinks, i do belieave long term the Offroad has a more attractive resale value

@Airborne thanks David! I really wish I could have gotten bronze oxide here in Canada...it's a color that is limited to only the TH...and the TH is only available in the 6ft! We get seriously limited options up here, on trims/colors/packaging. However, even counting the 3rd gen into the equation...the Sport model is most popular here, and I think it's because of the scoop. Which, is nice for sure...but it's literally the only thing that singles out the sport as a unique trim.

Rookie question here...what is SDM? lol

Sabilizer Disconnect Mechanism….nice feature , waited 3 months for Bronze oxide and this feature in Hvbrid……its nice but i wouldnt jump through hoops and limiting yourself by that to get new truck, several videos online from toyota to see , very nice to have, pretty much electronicly ,enables the front axle to discoonect to the point the wheel is burried all the way up into wheel well almost like flex, or an added way for more space for wheel to go beyond distance normally, Like i said i took it out and played with it and it definately does what it says, honestly doubt i will be using on a constant basis. …..i understand how some models are almost like unicorns to find without traveling cross country or province to find …i think any truck your happy with and fits your needs and budget is a great truck

Who keeps the factory tires on these days? :sunglasses:

Before I picked up my TRD Sport, I had the dealer install the level kit, mounted KO2's at 265/70 size and sold the OEM tires back to the used sales guy.

My Corolla SE, I dumped the factory Michelin's and mounted Continental Contact Sport Plus for summer and bought 15" steelies (factory comes with 18's) and mounted WS-90's on them for winter. Result, have not driven my TRD Sport at all this winter season. Corolla handles it all.

Congrats on your new ride, looks sweet and enjoy it!

I also did the same thing when I picked up my 2016 SR. Sold the 5 OEM tires including the spare underneath to the used sales guy and mounted 265/75 on factory 16's.

Dealer took image before I arrived, much difference with large and better tires, KO2's.

@Airborne ahhh yes the sway bar disconnect. Mine has it, don't think I'll ever use it or have a use for it. I asked the sales guy if I should enable it every couple months to work it...he laughed and said nah, it's fine.

@oxi right on! Corolla's are awesome cars. I definitely could have sold the factory sport rims and tires...however fb marketplace and other listings already have people offloading them, and they've been listed for some time. Not really a market for them...and not possible to fit a gen 3 Tacoma. Another thing I struggled with was finding a good AT standard load tire...I didn't want to put a 10 ply on and suffer from rough ride and decreasing fuel economy (and acceleration). The tire weight would jump way over 60 lbs...whereas a SL tire is 45 or so. I was considering the Nitto Recons or Falken AT3/4...but hooo man...I was quoted $575/tire for the Falkens. And then to get a nice set of Method rims...imported from the US...yikes. Probably close to $5k by the time I get tires mounted and balanced. So ya, I went with the OR! And maybe by the time I need to replace the factory falken AT3's...there will be more availability of SL tires. I know that BFG is not releasing C and SL until 2026
