After some research I opted to go with the Toyo Open Country AT III 285/75/R17 C load rating on my OR. The truck has a 2 1/2” spacer lift. Tire pressure 37 front 34 rear. Tires are 20 lbs heavier than OEM sacrificing about 2 mpg. Ride quality and noise is comparable to the OEM. Time will tell on longevity.

That looks like a killer setup + Those wheels are perfect with bronze oxide. I’m glad you didn’t nuke your mpg too bad either.

I’d bet you’d notice that difference in rolling resistance and tire flex right away!

WOW relations wheels are stupid light that’s amazing ~ I’ve had my eye on methods for a while but I’ll have to put these in my pocket for when it’s time to upgrade.

right now my current front runner is actually the at4ws after reading through some replies and digging around a bit more. They actually have an 18” one in the oem trailhunter size that’s an SL rating so I think I’ll likely be going with that for the time being. I really like the toyos too but the at4w seems to just be a better tire all around? (But also it’s a newer tire design so there is that) the Toyo SL in that size is seven lbs lighter which I find interesting. I guess it’s falkens new compound that’s so heavy?

Falkens are great. Just not a fan of any E load tires. They aren’t really heavy for how fucking big they run. They are just simply wider than other tires on the market in the same size. Also the “Duraspec” is 3 ply so in some cases it’s thicker rubber.

Take the 275/70/18 in E load. KO3 in that size is 60.4 pounds. Falken in that size is 60.3 pounds. Yet the Falken is a little taller and wider. So it’s not really heavy. Just big.

I saw that the duraspec 3ply is on some of their C load/SL tires too but not all of them (on the falkens) which is nice because if that’s the bit of extra weight it’s prob worth it for the little bit of added protection/strength. A lot of manufactures seem reserve that sort of feature for e load only? I hope it’s on the oem size ~ currently doing some sleuthing to see

The falkens have longer tread wear too… that’s another reason why they’re a bit heavier and slightly taller. Honestly, that was the tire I was gonna get too, but the weight was still high for a 3-ply sidewall. The BFG’s were only slightly heavier with significantly beefier sidewalls.

Gotchaaaa that makes total sense! I noticed falken’s tread is between 1-2/32 thicker even on the SL tires which is amazing. I live in a city with some uh… awful roads that can chew up tires fast so that deff makes a difference for me. Plus it’s just gravy when I’m out exploring on weekends etc

I’m thinking about this exact setup bc of the C load. These are 33.9” tall and seem perfect. Did you need to remove the crash pad? Not sure I could fit them on. My 33.43” is pretty damn close to rubbing.

Also are those the +35 offset methods? How’s the “poke” looking ?

Looking sharp.
The 2 1/2” lift allowed the 75 series tire without any modifications. The Methods are +35 and poke is exactly an inch. Do a search , I posted straight on pictures in April I believe.

They offer them on C and up only. Not SL. The duraspec is tough as balls and not necessary unless you’re doing some super gnarly shit. My only issues with the OEM size is they look small on such a beefy truck and don’t get the me ground clearance I want.

Wonder if I can get them on the TH without pulling off that plate.

Good to know! I hear you on the oem tires looking kinda small, particularly with the 18in wheel. I feel like 35’s fill out the profile perfectly on this truck. That’s a bit too much tire for my needs but oh they look so good.

For the time being I’m not really planning to do anything gnarly so I suspect SL without that added ply will be great for me! I’m a maintained (and sometimes unmaintained) forest service road person mostly so nothing too fancy is needed for me! Plus I have the 6’ bed so it’s not like I can really do anything insane if I wanted to anyway. Ooooh this wheelbase is long but I do love it

The SL is perfect for you. And remember it still has a pretty deep tread of 14/32 and is a 51.4 pound tire. It’s not some weak street tire. It will be more than plenty.

I’ll be happy when I find a C load that is at least the same size of my current tire and fits on a light 17” wheel with no mods to my truck. Couple contenders including the Toyos.

Just wondering… you mentioned earlier you tried but didn’t like the XT’s. In ‘your size’ they weigh 50.3lbs. What was the issue? Ride, noise, looks…?

Loved the lightness of them. But I had 2 issues. One, they were in no way less bumpy or firm than the Falkens. As far as I can tell, an E load is an E load is an E load (not the fault of the tire). Second, they looked way too tame / grandpa style. But otherwise they were fine. If you want lightweight they are a solid choice. Nothing wrong with them. The Falkens just seem much higher quality and more robust / aggressive with the same ride quality. Lastly the Firestones are a little louder and more high pitched. I’m not knocking them - just not what I’m going for. What I need is a big C load tire. Will stick with my tires until I find the right thing.
