How's it going trying to solve your issue with the vibration? I have the same vibration with my Sport. I had the tires balanced 3 times, then replaced the tires for a new set and the truck is still vibrating above 50 mph.
What kinda vibrations are you talking about? It’s actually that bad? I haven’t noticed vibrations with my sr5 other then the normal engine feedback and driveline feedback

It feels like a tire is out of balance. It's not terrible, but it does shake things around in the cab. Feels like it's coming from the front.

Hmm interesting I’ve driven up to about 55mph so far and haven’t noticed anything like your describing . The dealer won’t help you? Ask them to get a FTS(field technical specialist) out took at your truck

Took my off the lot, drove it on the highway and though it was going to come apart. After balancing and checking underneath I realized that I may be thinking backwards. Tested and the moment the vibration started I push against the front of the roof rack thru the moonroof. It stopped immediately. I bought two rubber sheets, folded them to make them about 3/4” thick and shove them between the gaps that had no padding against the front of the rack, if you look thru the moonroof you’ll see that the center has a rubber footing. But the two sides do not. Tested and brought it up to 100 mph. No vibration.

Update, mild vibration is back. Now it is just noise coming from above. I reposition the rubber pads but still vibrating. Have an appointment at the dealer next Monday.

So I have a factory Toyota roof rack, don't know if you have one as well but I get bad vibrations sometimes if I'm in a headwind or around 75-80 I'll hear it and it gets worse with more speed. The only verification I have that its rack related is when I put my hand on the headliner I can feel it vibrating bad.
Same thing is going on with my new TRD OF. 75-80 the roof rack starts vibrating and gets worse with more speed. Open the sunroof and put a hand on the front cross bar under the front deflector, it immediately stops.

That's super annoying. my dealership took my truck on a 20-minute drive through town and told me they could not duplicate, and I specified highway speeds.

I have the same issue with my factory roof rack. If I have my kayaks on it doesn't vibrate but with them off at 120kmph it vibrates enough the rear view mirror will start to move down. If you touch the front of the rack through the sun roof you can feel that the lower cross member is dangerously close to hitting the roof it moves so much. I called 3 different Toyota dealers that i would go past as I am on a 4000km road trip and not one wanted anything to do with it. They all said they have knowledge of the issue and to contact my original dealer about it. I called my original dealer and they said they knew nothing about it and would have to get back to me.

For now I'll have to try the rubber thing if I can find some at a hardware store along my travels.

When I am back home in two weeks I will take it to the dealer and see what they have to say. The fact that 3 of the 4 dealers I talked to have knowledge of the issue makes you wonder why they still install these racks.

I opened a case with Toyota corporate, they talked to the dealer and researched about it. Finally they admitted some redesign might come in future models but they don’t plan on changing anything. I plan on filling lemon law and getting my vehicle replaced with one that does not have a roof rack. I’m really upset they just gave up.
this was so easy to repair, make a stronger front plate with better support send it to the dealers to replace. It take 15 minutes to get the trucks in 4 screws and done. I didn’t expect such low customer service from Toyota. I had 5 Lexus and came to Toyota because of the truck bed.
I even gave them the choice of removing it and giving me back the $1,600 they charged on the window sticker.

I finally made it home from my trip, to temporarily stop the vibration I taped a glove between the support bracket and the roof of the truck. This held up for the remaining 4000km of my trip and did no damage to the rack or the roof of my truck.

Once at the dealer they removed my glove and took it for a test drive to prove i was making a big deal out of a small vibration. When the tech came back he couldn't believe how bad it actually was. They opened a case with Toyota Canada and are currently waiting for a response on what they are willing to do. I asked for the rack to be removed and my money back, i was told at this time getting your money back or a credit is not an option. They also said I was the first in Canada to open a claim and report this issue?

As a more long term temp fix they put a block of black sealing tape between the rack and the roof of the truck. This surprisingly doesn't work as good as a glove and electrical tape but better than without it.

The dealer had a new TrailHunter on the lot with the same rack. We took it for a test drive and that rack does not vibrate at all even at a decent speed over the speed limit. The parts manager checked just to make sure and the TrailHunter rack and the one on my offroad are the same part number BUT they are now basically unavailable as the rack had a unlisted back order timeline?

If you have this problem please go to your dealer and open a claim. Don't just fix it yourself. As of right now Toyota seems to be doing nothing about it and will continue to do so unless enough people open a claim. I know I can fix the issue myself but with the cost of the rack you shouldn't have to spend time and money to fix it. Especially since they claim its been road and crash tested/approved.

Hello and thank you for this thread. I just purchased a TRD Off-road with roof rack and had vibrations going into the wind at 65+ mph. This thread showed me it was a roof rack vibration that I fixed by extending the grommets on the cross beam and electrical tape (I originally jammed a towel between the rack and cabin roof to stop the vibration) until I can get it to the dealer. I only had 250 miles on it when the problem occurred. I fixed it now with just under 900 miles on it. Thank you again for talking and solving the vibration problem.
