According to the NWSWPC, a winter storm is set to hit the Central Plains this Saturday night! ❄ Whether it’s pouring rain or heavy snow, it’s time to gear up for those winter drives.

Is your area expecting the storm’s arrival? If you need to hit the road, what’s on your checklist? Bright headlights to cut through the gloom? Anti-slip floor mats to keep things clean and safe? Or maybe snow chains and a trusty shovel?

Let’s talk winter car prep! Share your must-haves for staying safe and ready when the weather takes a turn. 👇

Stop right there.

I'm in the middle of Montana in a winter storm, and I'm good to go with my Lasfit floor mats.

Snow problem.

Dumb question. I would think traditionally something like a heavy SUV (4runner?) compared to a light backend truck would do better in snow conditions. I'n fact something like a light truck in the rear would not be ideal for traction.

What's the rational/way this is overcome with a vehicle like this this that makes them ideal performers in the storms?

Knowing when to apply the right foot to the proper pedal. Also keeping your speed appropriate for the road conditions. I have a hard bed cover which adds some weight to the back and that helps with traction in 2WD & 4WD. You gotta remember there were 4WD pickups running around for many years before the SUVs came to jam up the parking lots.

Where in Montana? I went to skiing East of GreatFalls Saturday. 6-10 inches of fresh snow and perfectly unplowed roads most of the way😎

I have a TRD Sport with the Michelin Primacy tires. They worked very well in our 9 inches of snow. Got to the bottom of a highway onramp only to discover that the highway plows had deposited about 2 feet of snow there. In my little Versa car I would have had to back up the ramp and try somewhere else. With the Tacoma, I checked that the coast was clear, and barreled right through the roadblock.

I want to join in even though Florida don't get no snow, but with the wind and rain storms I've had mine for it seems to do well, much better than the Sequoia I had before and definitely better than the Camry. Really going to get a taste when it's rainy season and if a hurricane hits the area and I'm not stuck at work like the past two to hit us.

I’ve had 4-wheel drive trucks since I was 17. That was 51 years ago.. live in New England and after all those years driving in our winter weather you really learn the technique of driving on snow covered roads verses non covered… technique and tires are your best friends.. and if you were dropped on your head multiple times when you were young your probably doomed driving in the ❄
