Same issue here on my OR with wider wheels. I added some extra PPF but didn’t go high enough. You’ll probably want to go all the way up to the gas cap. I think the only way to solve the issue is with running boards or wide sliders. My rocker area is getting rashed up too. Initially I really liked the factory “box liner” rocker guard but with the clear coat on it, it scratches really easily. Just installed running boards yesterday so we’ll see how it works after I touch everything up.
You are correct! Running boards and only certain wide ones are the only full protection. Rok Blok's are also a must. I now drive gravel roads without a care. Zero rock chips and I run dirt and gravel roads frequently. PPF won't cut it. The rocks will pit and road rash it to the point it will need replacing.

Rokblokz splash guards offer excellent protection for the thin Toyota paint. The factory splash guards are way too small.

The only modification I made was cutting the flaps a bit shorter by cutting them right above the logo on the bottom of each flap.

I also installed a set of Rough Country HD2 running boards for the ultimate in lower body paint protection.

The side of my new TRD sport got covered in stuff just from driving over a small amount of dirt. So I immedietly ordered Rokblockz Rally mudflaps. I don't know how they will hold up or if they will work much yet, but the stock ones are trash.

I see RokBlokz in a lot of recommendations and I need to check them out. I was stupid and trusted Toyota and got the OEM mud flaps for my Pro. Over 1/3 of the tires sticks out beyond these generic flaps made for skinny tires. What a freaking joke - Toyota should be embarrassed.

I had PPF put on the entire truck and already I have a few PPF nicks in those areas. Without the PPF I would have my first set of chips at 700 miles. I have sliders coming and I will upgrade the mud flaps, but I need to check more of them out and see what I really want.

I would love some recommendations.

I added Toyota cast aluminum running boards as soon as I could after getting my 2024 TRD Sport to keep this from happening. I might still replace the stock mud flaps with RokBlokz.

Now y'all have done it, I went with the ARK mudflaps. I've attached pictures with the skinny stock flaps below the ARK flaps, and a side profile to show how much they stick out past the tires. Fingers crossed this helps.

Good comparison pictures. The OEM flaps looks like Toyota went to the parts bin and grabbed some made for a Prus - total fail.

I am getting those or maybe Rally Armor ones soon. They have to be a big help for the rock chip problem.

Yeah, the stock flaps are comically small.
I don't think you can go wrong with either ARK or Rally Armor, I was torn between the two..

Looks awesome! I drive gravel, so I'm looking at the best options to install "day 1" of my new Tacoma. I'll probably remove the factory cast aluminum toyota boards and install a set of these RC's. Not sure how the factory Canada mudflaps compare to the RokBloks...but regardless I will be adding supplementary rubber flaps, attached to the brackets under the running board. Usually I do one on the first or second bracket (depending on the distance from front tire), and then another at the very rear of the running board. Done this for multiple trucks I have...really keeps the rocks and road rash down!

Same exact situation here. 2024 Pro Icecap. Does anyone know if PPF for these sections is pre-cut or is that a manual process?
Manual. The precut forms from XPEL and 3M are for the full fender, which is not only expensive for the material, but an expensive install. I bought a generic sheet and just slapped a DIY square on the side of my truck. It's not bad for DIY, but I'm going to lose a lot of points in a car show. However, I'd rather have a shit DIY PPF job than a sandblasted truck.

I got the mud flaps from ARK. Other people said that worked. Not much improvement IMO. Not sure if it's a tire issue throwing rocks, or just a shit design with shit paint, but regardless, the only people who don't seem to complain have steps or sliders with a top plate. I spent a long time looking at Tacomaworld to see what other people did and the general consensus was just throw some DIY PPF on it. I found a few people who did what I did and it seems to help. I already have some shredded up PPF from a gravel road so the PPF isn't a long term solution either.

The splash guards / mud flaps that came on my truck are quite wide. Measured at their widest point, they are 10.5” wide. They stand outside the body panel quite wide and are even with the fender flares.

I see a lot of issues with rock chips on the panel in front of the rear wheels on these trucks. It occurred to me that I haven’t seen any pictures of issues with long bed trucks. Maybe the flare for the wheel well is far enough back on the long beds?

Does anyone with a long bed truck still have this issue or is it just the short box trucks?

They came stock from the factory on my truck. I have a feeling that they changed out the skinny ones for the wide ones at the pre-delivery QA centre at the port.

It’s too dark out to go searching for part numbers right now but I will check tomorrow and report back.

It's a simple matter of geometry. Stretch a string/rope/whatever you have from the tread where it meets the ground at the back of the front tire to your rear quarter panel. You will see that the string has a direct path under the mud flap straight to the quarter panel. Big flaps like the Rok Blokz or Canadian Toyota flaps will help, but no mud flap alone will keep the rocks from pelting that area in front of the rear wheel. To keep rock away period, you need a combination of large flaps and wide running boards.

My neighbor has a 6 foot bed Sport with chips and he doesn't even go off road.
