2024 Off Road, Must be something I have set wrong.
I was out in the driveway working on the tonneau cover and finished what I was doing. The phone with the app was in the house as were both sets of keys and I wanted to move the truck, Just for grins I tried and it started and ran fine. I was shocked and decided to find out how far I could go. I drove around the block with no keys and no phone in the truck. The only thing that displayed was the android warning about loosing the phone signal. So what is the security protocol that allows this to happen? I was short on time and did not get to investigate it any further

The digital key uses Bluetooth to communicate with the truck. Evidently it was close enough to connect and let you start the truck.

Once it loses signal it's not going to just turn the truck off, that wouldn't be safe.

When I worked at a dealership in College, we had to keep the keys in small metal boxes to stop the signal. It was insane the range the keys had.

Yea Sagebrush brings up a good point. Check that the owners manual doesn’t have a key card snuck in there. Use a faraday bag at all times. Thieves can eat a dong as far as I’m concerned

The faraday bags are still a good idea. If your keys are close enough in the house the car can be unlocked. We have a small faraday bag for each set of keys where we keep our keys, and I have finally trained the wife to store her keys in her bag every time she gets home.

Most thieves don't clone keys now days. they program new ones with the obd port which is powered all the time and pro level scan tool.

That happened to me too. Turns out that there was a “credit card” key that the dealer didn’t give me when I picked up the truck. I didn’t even know there was one. I told the dealer what was happening and they suggested searching for the “credit card” key. I looked all over with a flashlight but didn’t find it at first but I finally found it under the passenger seat. It blended in because it’s black like the carpet. Good luck!

which is why you also install a OBD II port lock. The OE alarm system & the port lock will slow them down enough to bail on it. Depends on where & when it's parked

IDK if CAN BUS attacks have proven successful on these gen 4s, but I have seen shielding glued in a few key areas on the inside of the body panels near the locking gas cap (Trailhunter)

Run a kill switch remote bat disconnect. If they really want it, gun to the head seems to be where I let the insurance company deal with it.

mine won't even unlock when a key is more than a few away from either handle. sounds like there's something wrong with your truck if you need to store them in shielded bags inside your house.

yep, same here, gotta be really close to unlock it. BUT you shouldn't draw conclusions with the OE proximity signal and the power of signal boosters - that are known to allow successful entry to the cabin if there's a clear signal path. Having a routine where you toss your fobs and credit cards into a metal box, power down your phone or faraday bag (if digital key is installed) is a no brainer.

Just need your shit jacked 1x and you start thinking like a criminal. Make their lives a royal pain in the ass and they'll move on to the next potential score because let's face it: they're lazy and would rather steal vs. work for it.

Someone else mentioned cloning keys, not me. I'm not worried so much about a clone but these 'flippers' & signal boosters, the kickstarter stuff.

45-90 seconds is all you need to pull a left headlight, plug in a canbus attack module and steal a lot of late models.
