My wife and I both named our vehicles before we met and it must run in the genes because without it really being a big thing, our kids asked us what the cars name is when we purchased a 'new to us' car when they were little. 
I never named any vehicles until I worked at a place where everyone named their work trucks. That lead most people to also name their personal vehicles, and I was hooked. Now if I don't name a truck it is because I don't care enough about it to bother.
