If 3k for a new vehicle that's less than half a percent .004% of a 60k vehicle. Ill pay that for that vehicle to be made here.

That information is from an automotive group so I'm guessing that it went up 1500-2000 and they added a margin to that.

Wife was looking at a RAV-4, now she may have to get a Corolla Cross or Camry. Highlander too big for her.

Looks like tariff's are a go...

Cox Automotive, the cost of a U.S.-made vehicles would increase by about $3,000 while vehicles made in Canada or Mexico would rise $6,000.
Interesting and that brings me back to why I started this thread in the first place. The biggest complaint about 4th gens is already the price and $6k would pretty much kill Tacoma sales. The one question remaining is whether Toyota will apply this to Tacos or spread this cost across all of their models. I'm really glad that I have mine!

$3k is 5% of $60k and $6k will be an additional 10% on a $60k Taco, since they are all made in Mexico. US production would be the solution, but you don't just pick up two assembly plants and carry them across the border, so it could take years.

I think a lot of people will be rethinking what to buy next depending on exactly how this plays out.

RAV4 is Made in Georgetown KY, my wife owns one.
That is good news. US production is the obvious answer, and I'm sure that Toyota now wishes that production in San Antonio would have been expanded instead of moving it south of the border. But Toyota gambled on Mexico, which seemed like a safe bet based on the existing trade agreements between the US, Canada and Mexico.

I don't blame Toyota one bit for their Mexico gamble. Who knew that the person who called for a and negotiated a new trade agreement (USMCA) would be the one to rip it all up.

I had 3k at 4% bevause 60k cost then 5-7k salees tax, 2500 3k for registration. I was using " total cost" of paying cash for a 60k vehicle that actually cost 70 71k to get it on the road.

I agree that a factory doesn't just pick up and move. It's a long term plan that takes many things into account other than just tariffs. I think every vehicle is overpriced. After the 25% cov8d increase a few grand for tariffs is a drop in the bucket sadly

"Parts coming from Canada and Mexico that comply with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will be exempt from the tariffs until US Customs and Border Protections has a system in place to apply tariffs to non-US tariffs, a White House spokesperson said in a post on X."
Wow - government speak can be hard to follow! I assume that means parts might be exempt from tariffs for now, but I don't get the bit about a system in place to apply tariffs to non-US tariffs. That also sounds like parts might be exempt but not completed autos?

Sudden changes and uncertainty are real business killers and hopefully automakers understand this better than I do. lol

Don’t forget that dealers will add markup asap because the news announced the tariffs, and people expect them, they will take advantage of the information or misinformation. As natural born liars, they can’t help themselves.

I think this is and will he 90% of it. I was selling logs off a job the other day and log buyer already tried that bs. He said " walnut prices have dropped 40% domestic" i got in the truck and started to pull out when he stopped me. I got full price for my logs. Log buyers are worse than car salesman

Here is the summary from Cox on the effects of the tariffs.

“By mid-April we expect disruption to virtually all North American vehicle production,” Mr. Smoke said on Wednesday during a conference call with clients and reporters. “Bottom line: Lower production, tighter supply and higher prices are around the corner.”

Trump should remove any tariffs on foreign companies that commit to building or repurposing plants in the U.S. It takes time to set up a whole manufacturing facility, but if they present plans and contracts, then those tariffs should end.

Just trying to keep this stuff straight. The White House now says that the tariffs will apply to both assembled cars/trucks and to auto parts imported and used in US production. So there will definitely be some big price increases on our vehicles, even those made in the US. Cars and trucks are already crazy expensive and increases will hit sales hard IMO. I hope my truck is a good one, because I don't want to buy another vehicle any time soon.
