I would hope it beats the current V6 in MPG. Given that the Tundra added about 5 MPG in both City and Highway numbers when it came out, I would think we could expect similar numbers.

My guess is 21/27 for the non hybrids, and the hybrid to be 23/27. Hopefully I'm wrong and it's even better but that's my 'realistic' guess.

I think you’re close. I’d say 21/25 and hybrid 23/26

My hope would be in the high 20s! They'll have a hell of an edge over the competition with some killer MPG ratings.

If they got this thing into the high 20s that would be an amazing win! I wouldn’t expect it to beat the RX500H at 27/28/27, but if it came close to that for a pickup would be pretty amazing! Ok obviously the Maverick hybrid in a FWD form does a lot better. But high 20s here I think would be awesome!

The Maverick is both low and light- that helps immensely. Aero on the RX is better thsan the Tacoma will be. but weight will be close.

Grand Highlander numbers are out now. Base 2.4T will be 21/28. Hybrid Max 26/27.... and regular Hybrid which will not be in the Tacoma 37/34 for XLE, 35/31 for Limited.

All pretty impressive numbers for such a large vehicle. I still think Tacoma will be 21/27 and 23/27. I hope it's a little better than Irtexasman is predicting. ;)

Im all in for the hybrid... but the inner voice in my head is thinking bad things... like now we have the expense of replacing the batteries every what 150k miles or 15 years which ever comes first for an additional 1-3 mpg in fuel economy advantage? I mean at least give us the PHEV option like the RAV4 Prime - then hell I'd knock over a bank for it.

I remember recently seeing Toyota advertise the 150K warranty on the batteries.... in Texas but maybe I was just seeing it on the internet and didn't realize it only applied to certain states.

"Hybrid Battery Warranty of 120 months/150,000 miles applies to these CA Emission states: CA, CT, ME, MD, MA, NJ, NY, OR, RI and VT"

As far numbers are concern it will need be 24-26 range to justify the price hike in my opinon its time for Tacoma to be efficient fuel wise. even if it cost pretty penny. That's the first thing people bring up when they talk about tacoma downsides.

Good to know.... I wonder why it called it out separately as only those states on the information under the grand highlander?
Maybe you just read the Hybrid component warranty 8 years 100,000 miles?
