I tried at a local dealer, never heard anything back from them.

Another dealer used a trade appraisal service on there website, when I went in they offered me $8k less than what the service recommended.

I messaged @Jrouleau426 at 8:30am and had an under MSRP offer by 11:30am that no dealer I'm my state would come close to. Dealers need to go the way of the dinosaurs IMO.
The franchise model is important. If pricing was fixed Toyota could charge whatever they want, guaranteed that would lead to higher pricing. Smart path is misleading bc dealers may honor the price but add in other crap. Competition is always best in every market! I’m able to get such good deals bc other people pay msrp or over invoice. So it’s either everyone pays the same (Tesla model) or educated consumers that do research are rewarded and those that buy emotionally or in a hurry are taken advantage of.

I'm just grumpy from my dealer experience. Their are pros and cons to all sales models.

Trust me I know. I started doing this after negotiating deals for friends and family and seeing how deep dealers can actually go. I used to think invoice was ideal, typically it’s not.

1. For Trade, they immediately tried to Low Ball me, I showed them the Carmax offer which was several thousand more then they offered, they ultimately matched the offer.
2. They originally wanted 5K ADM. When I told them no and that I would look around, they said Okay we will do MSRP.
3. On all the up sale things the Finance guy tried. I kept saying no. the Extended 7 yr/75,000 warranty was $2699 when he started. As I kept saying no, He kept going down till I said OK at $1299. (figured as this was a new year model and it only raised payment $20a month I finally said yes)

The more you say no the faster they drop prices.

Crazy that he tried to overcharge you on the extended warranty. I paid roughly $1299 for mine too, off the hop. So sad how different dealers have different practices. I couldn't believe the great service I received from mine.
