The hybrid Toyota vehicles I've owned normally switch from regenerative braking to mechanical braking at ~5 mph. It's barely noticeable with a CVT, which most hybrid vehicles have, but I have no idea if it's more noticeable with a normal tranny.

It's too bad the Taco hybrid doesn't have a 'B' gear. In other Toyota hybrids, putting the car into 'B' disengages the regenerative braking and forces the vehicle to use mechanical braking. I used to use 'B' every now & then just to knock the rust off the rotors.

I have no issue with how it brakes. Just want to know if it’s an early transmission failure sign. I will just never know until my transmission fails.

You outta take your truck to the dealership and have it looked at and documented, the more people that complain the faster a fix might come. Who knows maybe it’s something entirely different and they can fix it. Call Toyota corporate as well and voice your concern, we’re all in it together and somewhat concerned and left in the dark driving very expensive brand new trucks. Maybe while your at the dealer test drive another hybrid model to see if it does the same thing yours is doing

I will definitely drive another hybrid. I was thinking that. I will make sure it’s not in the TSB.

I'm following. 2400 serial Trailhunter, and have the same shudder and jump at stops, at around 3500 miles right now, if anything, it is getting more pronounced.

Interesting. Mine is subtle and not getting worse. I wonder if multiple things are happening at once.

@tacorancher I can't tell when my truck switches between regen braking and regular braking. As in most Toyota hybrids that transition is seamless. But I do know that a lot of people think a slight shudder at that transition is the cause. I might have felt it once, but it was super subtle and I have not noticed any other shifting problems.

What makes this tricky is that a shudder when downshifting to a stop is also a sign of bad shift actuators, which is what I think @Gfenza89 has. IMO his shift solenoids are damaged from debris, but not to the point where they are stuck. Dealers are saying that is normal, when obviously it is not. That leaves him stuck between a truck that works as it should and one that is totally broken. He would be a lot better off if it just went ahead and died.

Which reminds me @Gfenza89 - is your truck still shifting well after that dealer visit or is it back to not working like it should?

Wish we lived closer to each other I’d be willing to meet up with some folks who are having these issues and compare our trucks

Mine also does this. Basically when I'm right at the stop it jumps forward just a bit. 2024 Hybrid

yes and no, once it’s warmed up it shifts perfectly smooth now, when it’s cold I still get some odd shifts but overall yes it’s shifting much better

Above. 7664

:(

First 3 gears are fairly rough shifts as well. Whether upshifting or downshifting.

Why the frowning face? This is evidence this could be normal for hybrids
