None of that makes sense. I thought an allocated truck was not built yet.

Did they give you a build date or are they saying it isn't built yet? I don't see Toyota issuing a TSB for trucks that they haven't even made. I would ask for more information if it was me.

If I bought a truck within the VIN range I would ask for a pretty substantial discount.

They’ve made trucks for years that fall into many tsb for known issues. Look at the diff howl on the 3rd gen Tacoma, tsb for that all the way up to the last ones that rolled off the assembly line

@Gfenza89 Yep - I have had trucks which fell under several of them. I just didn't think that they would still be building trucks with transmissions in the TSB range. Isn't that kind of nuts? Maybe I didn't understand the situation and I don't think @Delta1Seven's dealer is being very helpful, for whatever reason. If it was me, I would at least want more info from the dealer.

BTW - yesterday my truck shifted just like normal. Did your issues come and go like that?

Yeah sometimes it shifts great, sometimes it shifts like crap. I can’t make heads or tails of the situation I just know in my gut something is clearly wrong

Yeah - understood.

Although it sucks, at least we don't have to worry about what to do, because Toyota doesn't care anyway. The failures and poor performers are just noise for them in the big business of selling millions of car a year.

My TH falls within the range.. 3k miles, the only weird thing is that the first cold shift of the day, 1st-2nd gear, is harsh. All other shifts are fine.

OK, so my first part of the VIN is 3TMLB5J but the last part of the VIN is RM37A162. Do I only look at the last 5 number and ignore the "A"?

I think this is your temporary VIN. Once the truck is built it will be assigned a new VIN with whatever the next number is in the built series.

tankk69 - I am new to this forum but had my transmission go out at 2500 mi. In looking at an earlier TSB the first letters were different in some of the affected VIN's. The numbers varied with those first letters as well. Bottom line, my impression is the whole string is important. BTW it took a little over a month to get my rig back up and running. With over 10K on it, the mileage is better and it works as expected.

Mine is within the range and hasn't had any issues except for the first shift of the day. My question is before we all freak out, how many trucks actually have the problem? I know Toyota will never let us know the answer to that question. How many trucks have they built? How many of those actually had the problem? We don't represent ALL the Tacoma owners, we're just a small percentage of owners. Could this be an issue we are creating? If the percentage of trucks with the issue is under 1%, is it really something that needs this much panic? I understand those who have had the issue are upset and have all the rights in the world to be upset! I would/will be too if my tranny dies but this worrying/waiting for it to die is not the way to enjoy our new rides!

Just the fact they created a tsb for this problem shows you it’s a much larger number than we think. Tsb are only created for a common trending problem.

What was yours doing before and during its failure? Can you go into detail please to help the folks on this forum who are going through this? Check engine light on ? Thank you!

That is what mine has started doing most days now too. I can live with that but it does make you wonder where this road is headed.
