Vehicle is 2025 Tacoma SRT sport with ~2,200 miles.

The engine always had with a mild rattle under load (acceleration or hills) from week 1 and it's gotten louder.

I would like to know if your truck sounds similar when acceelrating or climbing a hill ??

This is an under hood recording made with phone in the cowling below windshield.
The rattle is prominent between 26 and 35 seconds.

I know oil stavation and/or valve train issues and/or direct injection issues can all cause similar noises. The engine sounds sick but seems otherwise healthy. No codes, oil pressure reads okay.

D4S Injectors are loud. Running premium fuel reduces this noise. Also, not all trim levels come with the hood insulation. This helps cut down on the noise pinging around the engine bay. I plan on adding that to mine soon.

Good call. I have already added underhood noise damping tiles from amazon. That recording is from inside engine bay for obvious reasons. It's still a lound nasal rattlefest though.

I recently put the TRD exhaust on mine and that really helped balance out the sound. Prior to it there was just zero exhaust noise and so all you heard was the injector rattle at times. Now it’s got a throaty tone under load that counteracts a lot of the engine noise. But yeah, going for the hood insulation next just because I feel like the truck should have came with it to begin with.

Sounds just like my Sport did with that mileage. It seemed to quiet down a bit around 5k miles, or I just got used to it. Also I have been consistently running 91 octane gas which also seems to help. I will be adding hood insulation as a last step for both noise and heat reasons.

I have a similar noise around 2000-2500 RPM, in 1st (or maybe 2nd, I can’t remember) gear. It happens right before it upshifts under normal acceleration. Does this seem like yours as well?

Normal, It's a ratty sounding 4 cylinder. Most of that is likely injector noises. I would say that @ over 15K miles on my engine now, it's noticeably quieter now. What I'd like, and what I want is for Toyota to give me a proper engine cover, and some under hood insulation. I feel that for $45k, I should at least get some stuff to quite down a ratty sounding 4 cylinder engine.

Did you get regular sound deadening panels, those rubber ones with sticky backs? I was thinking on adding that as well, but still on the fence about it.

I completely agree that these trucks should all have the giant underhood noise-reduction pad; well, maybe it would have been excusable to leave it off the SR model. In that rev range, this is the worst-sounding engine, including '80s diesel cars, that I can ever recall. And I'm an old guy. I'm considering ponying up the several HUNDRED dollars for the Toyota hood pad. I believe I read somewhere that the manual tranny trucks do not have the speaker-generated noise canceling function, so my truck may actually sound worse than the 99% that are automatics!

Old man here too. Just want a few basic creature comforts. I did order that underhood insulation for the Tacoma as per the link I shared in a previous message. I also picked up some sound reading material from Amazon. My thoughts are to use both for the hood. Figure anything will be an improvement at this point. I can say that the truck is at least tolerable to me now, so no more crazy chatter when accelerating, or I should say much less noice nowadays with the milage I now have.

I agree with your comments though and I have always disliked 4-bangers because they just don't sound good to me like a V-8 might. Because of this I've steer clear of them for the majority of my life.
