I noticed that sometimes the 2wd to 4wd is super smooth, not to mention driving in 4 wd is pretty smooth even in high speed. However sometimes when changing to 4wd it makes a loud grinding noise. Am I doing it wrong. Sometimes no sound and sometimes loud grinding. What is your thought.

Mine "THUNKS" sometimes when going from 4H to 2x. I've owned lots of 4x4's in the past including the older hub-lock style and this seems to happen with all of them "sometimes". Gears don't always synchronize perfectly when changing 4x to 2x especially at low speeds.

personally, I didn't give it a second thought and I am not worried about it.

I like to change when not moving. Of course that's not always possible for some instances.
