I love my new 4g Limited. However, the MPG and fuel tank size SUCKS! Last week I drove across the country from VA to Utah with my son. I gave him my 2016 4x4 Sport when I bought my 2024. When we filled the tank up on the 2016 Sport it says "428 miles to Empty". I just filled my 2024 limited up and it says "212 Miles". I know the tank is "A LITTLE SMALLER", but holy hell man!

I feel your pain. Just drove from UT to WV for Christmas in a rental Durango that got like 450+ miles to the tank. Now I have to drive from UT to FL in the Tacoma and I'm dreading the difference in mileage and how much more often I'll have to stop and fill up.

Tank size is probably my biggest gripe about it.

Yeah it's a pain. My previous truck had a 21 gallon tank and got 24-25 mpg on the highway, so fill ups yielded around 450 miles per tank. It's a shame, hopefully some vendors are working on a larger replacement tank.

You make a good point.. I guess I'm just a little frustrated after driving across country getting 400 plus miles to a tank with 34" tires. As i have stated, I love the truck. It's my fourth Tacoma (1995, 2005, 2016 and 2024). You would think if something is going to get worse mileage they would have gone with a bigger tank, that's all. I understand why. if you look under it, they really didn't have a choice. I 'm hoping some aftermarket vendors come to our rescue.

So, other than the smaller, turbo engine, what is taking up more space than the 2023?

Agreed. The tank size is an odd choice. I wish it had at least 3-5 more gallons.

I feel your pain CEtaco. I knew the same thing going into the 4th gen Taco. My 1993 Toyota pickup (they didn't name it "Tacoma" til 1995), my 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen Tacos ALL had a bigger gas tank then my 4th gen Taco.

I travel a lot and there are many roads here in God's country that don't have gas stations for a 100 mile stretch. I got on amazon and bought a 10 Liter Wavian jerry can and holder that I keep in the bed when I do a road trip. Haven't had to use it, but knowing that it's there in case I need it is a huuuuuge relief. a 10-liter jerry can converted to American specs is 2 1/2 gallons. That's an extra 50 miles for my TRD Sport Taco. Just my 2¢.

Didnt someone post they were testing a long range aftermarket fuel tank for the new gen Tacomas?

I spoke with multiple Toyota dealerships and even a secretary at Toyota head quarters here in Plano, Texas. I asked them how I could get a larger fuel tank and a roll down rear window like they did for the Tundra from the factory at the Baja California plant in Tijuana, Mexico. It all fell on deaf ears. They get their marching orders from corporate in Tokyo and make no changes.

How do I know this is possible ? My youngest son did a special order and bought a 2021 Dodge Rebel 1500 and the Dealership asked him point blank; If you travel a lot you may want to think about spending an extra $500 and get the larger fuel tank offered from the factory. He did. I was there and heard the entire conversation. Wow, if Dodge can offer a larger fuel tank why can't Toyota ? ? ?

I ordered a new Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 in 2012 and chose the optional 120 litre tank. Standard tank was like 96 litres I believe. I was doing a lot of long distance driving at the time. Best truck I ever owned (for 2 years before a red light runner took it out).
My Tacoma says about 425 km on a full tank but I’ve driven it 500 km in city driving before refuelling. Took 64 litres about. That’s 312 miles on a tank in the city. Hwy should be better. Not the best but I’m ok with that.
The reserve is very big, like I said over 50 km after it was “empty”.
