I spoke with multiple Toyota dealerships and even a secretary at Toyota head quarters here in Plano, Texas. I asked them how I could get a larger fuel tank and a roll down rear window like they did for the Tundra from the factory at the Baja California plant in Tijuana, Mexico. It all fell on deaf ears. They get their marching orders from corporate in Tokyo and make no changes.

How do I know this is possible ? My youngest son did a special order and bought a 2021 Dodge Rebel 1500 and the Dealership asked him point blank; If you travel a lot you may want to think about spending an extra $500 and get the larger fuel tank offered from the factory. He did. I was there and heard the entire conversation. Wow, if Dodge can offer a larger fuel tank why can't Toyota ? ? ?
I ordered a new Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 in 2012 and chose the optional 120 litre tank. Standard tank was like 96 litres I believe. I was doing a lot of long distance driving at the time. Best truck I ever owned (for 2 years before a red light runner took it out).
My Tacoma says about 425 km on a full tank but Iā€™ve driven it 500 km in city driving before refuelling. Took 64 litres about. Iā€™m ok with that.

To start with, you have to be getting better than 212 miles per tank unless you drive that Truck like a scalded dog. The distance to Empty calculation is horrible and will leave you an additional 4 gallons when it says it's done. That being said, I get better mileage than that on the express way. Even my estimator usually says between 250 and 280 and I am lifted, with a cap, and running 33" 10 Ply tires. On my last trip to Maine there were a couple of legs where I was getting around 20mpg after adjusting for the tire size. You are correct about the size. Can't wait for LRA to come out with a 4th Gen tank. More range is always good!

I feel the pain. My old 3G usually get 330 miles per tank and my truck is showing 260 miles to empty so I akind knew this is wrong. I have Trip A on the screen and the MPG on the screen too. I can see I am getting more than 260 miles to empty.

I have been switching back and forth on eco and normal mode. I have a long road trip coming up tomorrow. To Vermont from Philadelphia.

I was disappointed to hear the tank size went down. Coming from my 2010 Tundra, this wasnt a big deal because the fuel gauge in it read empty at 19 gallons, and at 12mpg it didnt last long. So with my new TRD ORP saying 316 miles to empty after a fill up, its not so bad. On a rare occasion I would get 300 miles to a tank on the Tundra. Ive found our Rav4 is the most comfortable range for road tripping, easily getting 350 miles on a tank with fuel to spare and not worry.

I am hoping my fuel economy and range improve on my new Tacoma though as it breaks in, and when we no longer are on the winter blend fuel. (gauge reads 21.2mpg average).

The small tank is not appropriate for any off road vehicle. To force us to carry a tank of gas unprotected in the bed is a bad idea that we have to follow in remote areas. I like my '24 TRD OR, but it doesn't get the range I'd like to see off road. On the highway, at reasonable speeds, I get 22 -24 mpg, but off road and in cold weather I get 14 - 16 or less. I had a 48 gal transferflow tank on my Tundra and never used it all, a 24 gal tank on the Tacoma OR would be nice. There's room for it under the 6' bed.

I've got a 2024 Taco Limited too. I had a 2017 Taco Limited before. I'm not sure the gas tank is smaller on the 2024, but I do know that Toyota changed the amount of the reserve when the gauge says to "refill". I first noticed that when it said refill but it only took 16 gallons when the specs says it's a 18.5 gallon tank. Sure enough, I found that once it says "refill", there's still about 45 miles range left. When I talked to the service manager at my dealer he said that too many people were running out of gas so they decided to build in a larger reserve.

If my TACO said I could get 300 miles when I filled it up I would be happy too. mine is saying 218 miles.

I love my new Tacoma but totally agree on the tank size and mpg. I have approx 3,600 miles on mine and have been hoping that at least the mileage would improve. Is there a big difference between the driving modes as it relates to gas mileage? I keep mine in eco mode.

I seem to have better luck in normal mode.

Like Drifte, I've had better luck in the normal mode with 14,200 miles on my Taco. Don't know if it made a difference, but ran it in eco mode for first 2500 miles, but the transmission failed. I know a bunch of us had that tranny problem, but just not sure I want to push it for no noticeable difference with my driving style and places I go.

Dude, what's your freaking problem. CEtaco was just stating his opinion about his brand new Taco. Chill.
I think that was meant as a bit of a joke. OP posted another thread the same day about how HORRIBLE the remote start is...

My TRD Sport Hybrid has been showing about 330-340 for the range. I've been using the Trip meter and I've been getting right around 330 per tank with about 20-25 miles still showing on the range. Usually takes about 15 gallons, give or take, to fill it up.

I was concerned about the range on the smaller tank as well, but it's actually been VERY close to what I got on my 2020 TRD Sport, just takes a couple of gallons less to fill up. Still, it would be pretty awesome to have something like a 21-24 gallon tank.
