@Ron I did listen to my front door speakers and it is just like what you described. Mostly bass with just a small amount of higher frequencies and muddy as hell. It sounds like a cheap speaker in a cardboard box.

So that has to be a big part of why that sound system is so weak, since you should be getting midranges out of those IMO. I doubt that anything short of replacing the entire system will really fix that.

I don't think it is your truck, but just a clear miss on Toyota/JBL's part.

We do have the JBL system it was very easy to install, a tremendous difference well worth the money especially the fact.
A. Plug and play
B. You can always add amps later and upgrade when you are able to.
C. Easy instillation.

Sounds to me like all available options are just a cover up for a crappy, overpriced system.
I agree. Toyota should have deleted the removable speaker and made this cheap system standard. Then they could have made even more money by selling us something that really was premium sound.

I ordered the Beat Sonic.
I have trouble seeing how a simple amp could compensate for such a stupid design but based on the feedback im hearing it might get me past the thing that annoys me most about this truck.

These engineers... They could have put in a normal mid-range stereo without all the extra cost of doing this goofy setup. Like Freak said above - offer an upgrade from "premium" to deluxe. Better for all consumers - better for Toyota.

my theory is the way Toyota rolls off the bass at higher volumes is changed when you boost the power.

My front door speakers sound like they are getting a sub-woofer feed. Only bass coming thru. Back doors have mids/uppers like the dash speakers.

Its been a while since i had to mess with a stereo but that's not normal is it?

Would the Beat-sonic change that ?

When i adjust the balance to the rear, the sound gets muddy.
That is correct. The front doors’ are mid-bass speakers playing, I’m guessing here, from 80-1k Hz. The corner dash speakers play from 1k to about 4K and the A-pillar tweeters play the rest.

Thats normal for a 3-way setup to sound as you described, it’s fine.

The Kicker Key amp likely won’t work on the JBL system, as the mid and tweet are probably daisy-chained on one channel of the JBL amp and the mid-bass is on another. You simply won’t get all the channels on a 4-channel amp for fronts and rears.

The JBL (where the Beatsonic hooks up) has all the audio on two channels (sub and all speakers). The amp under the seat splits everything.

Correct. My apologies. I was assuming that we were grabbing the signal where “I” would mount the Key amp, by the JBL amp, not in the dash. It does depend on where you want to grab signal from for sure.

Personally, I’m doing a PAC AmpPro AP4-TY14 to, well, I haven’t decided yet. Grab a flat signal from the H/U and build from there.

I am thinking that might be the best way to go too.

I am going to add the Beat Sonic amp and hope it lets me tolerate the JBL system until I can basically just do the whole thing over. That is the only way that I can see to really fix what JBL screwed up. Having worked for contracting companies I also know that JBL might have known this was a turkey, but they had to built what Toyota wanted.

Well, I just ordered the BS from Josh. I will let you all know my thoughts after I get it installed. Any install tips?
I can send you the installation PDF ahead of time if you want!
