I've also seen a few connectors in the Tacoma look like they're seated but have another 1/16 of an inch to go before they're really fully seated.
First off, your suggestion on taking out the removable speaker was a good one, it made finding a place for the amp a lot easier.

For a sanity check I attached a picture of the back of my HU before I removed any connectors. I am basically removing the two connectors on the bottom left in that picture, right? That would be the black 10-pin connector and the gray 28-pin connector next to it. If those are not right, then that could be my problem.

All of the Toyota plugs snap securely into the HU. The 10-pin and 28-pin BS plugs snap securely into the HU also. The Toyota 10-pin connector snaps cleanly into the BS cable. But the Toyota 28-pin connector does not snap into the BS cable. I pushed that really hard and it appears to be seated, but it never clicks. Maybe that is the problem?

Thanks for the help. I have done complete sound system installs on several cars and trucks, swapped out ECUs and other components and I did not expect this easy upgrade to be a problem.

@TacoFreak There's a few videos on Youtube, I followed this one

Like you I kinda of messed up the first time, and had to watch the video a couple of times to get it right. Like I said earlier the BS connectors are not color coded. White BS to grey Toyota for example.

here's another video:

@hogshooter Yeah I watched those - Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the BS connectors are in the right place. My main question is that Toyota male 28-pin not snapping securely into the BS 28-pin female connector. I might try some mechanical pressure to get them to snap together.

I just have to give it another go when I want to feel stupid again. :)
