Someone want to explain to me why Toyota does not do bumper steps? It seems like most everyone else does and they are perfect.
I think part of the problem is patents from other manufactures (GM in particular) make designing and selling that style of bumper very difficult. I can’t remember where I heard patents and legal clearance were a part of this but I’ll try to find that if I can.

part of me wonders if that’s why the new ranger’s step is on the side too. Hmm.

The funny thing is no instructions on how to install, but when you kind of think it through it pretty easy. Should take you about 15 to 20 min, For me to get onto the bed was kneeing the tail gate first and then standing up and when I tried to get up on my feet and stand up, almost fell and told myself falling is worth more than $500 or therapy.
Agree! I used to be able to step/climb up the 3rd gen faily easily. The 4th gen is just high enough to make it akward and risk falling and getting injured! Side step bumper would solve a lot of issues.

Is it me or are the aftermarket items really slow in coming out? I don't even have my all weather mats yet.

I agree that the aftermarket items seem to be slow coming out. But I’ve never had a new model year vehicle so I am not sure if this is normal or not

I got mine from Fred Anderson Toyota Parts Department. That dealer was the cheapest during the Memorial Day sale. I got the Toyota 20% off, an additional 18% from the dealer and free shipping. I didn't like the $80 one from Amazon. This one is high quality materials worth the extra money for longevity and protection, imo.

Indented bumper steps have been around for a long time. Patents are only good for 17 years. Chevy's recent step/tailgate is covered under a patent but I doubt that patent extends to bumper steps.

No shade here, am 5'8" and I also keep a step stool to get up on the bed. A little jealous of Chevy Colorados with the built in steps on their bumpers sometimes.

Same here, really want a bed step but not willing to pay the almost $400 OEM part, hoping after markets will come out with cheaper options soon.

I wanted to get one but not paying $300+. Aftermarket was like $80 on the 3rd gen. Using my $15 option until prices come down...
