I'm trying to set the drive mode to "sport' by default. I saw a youtube video where the guy stated to hold down the drive mode button for 5 seconds, but that didn't work.

Can't do it. It'll stay in Normal or Eco.

Yeah - I can't find a way to make mine stick in Sport either.

Toyota probably did the emissions testing in the other modes and has to default to them to keep the feds happy.

Thankfully a simple clockwise click on the drive mode knob enables it quickly if desired.

Still, that's one more thing to have to do. I'd like to be able to make "sport" a default setting.
I would too. Especially on the BMW X5 I have with start/stop. At least my Offroad does not have that annoying “feature”.

This is customer friction. It reminds me of a story about iDrive and xDrive awhile back when you wanted to put a file in your cloud storage. All you had to do was put a file in the folder and click 'upload'. Well Dropbox came along and all you had to do was drop a file in a particular folder and it did it automatically. Eliminating one little click gained them millions of customers.

I didn't see a setting related to that last time I scanned my ECU with the Carista. What you can set changes with Carista updates, so let's hope for the future. Somewhere on this forum someone posted a complete list not too long ago.
