Does anyone else have the issue where once a month the radio just randomly disconnects your phone from Carplay. I have to go back into the settings and turn carplay back on manually. No rhyme or reason to when it happens. Is there a software update for the truck.

Don't know that I have carplay problems, but I definitely have repeatable, predictable problems with the Toyota head unit:

1. I have an hour+ commute home on the days I'm in the office. I generally try to make use of the time talking on the phone to my kids that live outside of Texas. Guaranteed that if I've been using carplay to conduct the conversation for at least 10-15 minutes and upon ending the call, the head unit will stop interfacing with carplay properly (new call, text message, Siri request) until it's reset either through a reboot or power off/on. I'm so used to the problem that it's become second nature to have to push and hold the volume knob for a reboot to reset things.

2. This is not predictable, but I experience a random reboot of the head unit a couple of times a week. Might be actively using carplay for music or voice, or might not, but the head unit will occasionally spontaneously reboot.

These are classic hallmarks of software defects. I'm really curious to know if they're happening with the 2025 models, because if they're not, we need firmware/software updates.

Great truck, love it, but the software needs fixes/updates.

Which IOS are you using? I assume you are using the same Toyota software I am. I have no issues and am using IOS 18.4.
I'm running iOS 18.4 on a iPhone 14 Pro Max. Like I said, I don't believe this is a carplay issue. All signs point to it being a problem with the software in the head unit.

I constantly have issues connecting to Carplay. Sometimes I forget the device and reconnect it. I will say I may need to update IOS but I believe my head unit has had an issue.

I had issues with head unit, used to reboot randomly. Dealer ordered a new head unit, waited 5 months for it. Was installed two weeks ago, get into the truck, and tech never checked, but the new head unit was worse than the old one. Dealer tells me that Toyota uses reman head units for warranty repair. Super angry‼ Been waiting to hear about a replacement, sure hope it doesn’t take 5 months - Toyota is going to be getting a phone call soon.

Just did a 10 hour each way round trip and the CarPlay disconnected frequently. Up until now, I’d say it happened a few times a week, but on this trip, it happened at least 4-5 times each way. I can‘t detect any pattern. I tried pressing the picture of the phone to reconnect, and sometimes it would let me then toggle the CarPlay button and I’d be back in action, but usually it doesn’t. When this happens, I have to turn the truck off then back on, which is the only way I can get it to reset. Love the truck but the software is garbage. It was very frustrating when I was using google maps for navigation in an unknown city and it just up and quit working.

Press and hold the volume knob until you see the Toyota symbol appear (5-10 seconds). That essentially performs a cold reboot on the head unit and mimics you turning the vehicle off and on. Should help you recover from the disconnect while you’re still driving (does for me).

I feel your pain Blanco,
I have said on these message boards twice now that something ain't right with the AppleCarPlay and I'm glad that more 4th gen Taco owners are starting to speak up. I have taken my Taco to three different dealerships and they fix it and then it dies as soon as I shut off the motor. I have to resync my iPhone to apple car play every time i start the motor. WTF ?

Best way I’ve found on my old Kenwood unit in my ‘06, forget the HU in your phone, forget the phone in the HU. Reboot both, then re-pair.

Mine starting doing this yesterday. All of a sudden. We had been gone for a week not driving the truck. Got in yesterday and about 5 times throughout the day it just dropped the connection to the phone, screen goes black for a second and when it comes back on the phone is now now connected. I had to hold down the power button to reset the head unit to get it to reconnect. One time even when in the middle of a call. Really weird as for the first 16k miles it never did it once but all of a sudden started.

Looks like we are all having similar issues. I thought my issue was frustrating, some of your issues are way worse! Disconnecting multiple times per trip is horrible.
