Went in for 10K maintenance on Friday. Waited 3 hours. Went home, parked for about 15 hours, and then noticed a large oil puddle (10-12 inch diameter overnight). Got under the truck and found the skid plate flooded with oil, so much it was dripping out of multiple skid plate holes.

Went back to the dealer and told them to figure it out and clean it up. I waited another 3 hours for them to tell me that they did everything correctly and I’m supposed to bring them some kind of spigot because the access panel isn’t in the right spot on RCI skids. News to me. Anyone know a solution/product for this? Needs to be simple and easy enough for the lazy careless “techs” at the shop.

Also, my steering wheel is slightly cocked (had an alignment done by not Toyota after installing my lift)…Toyota says their machines are not calibrated for the 2024 Tacoma yet. Could that actually be true? They can’t fix alignment?

I have a hard time understanding how an alignment affects the electric steering. Perhaps I'm missing something.

First off, WTF lol

I would be immediately finding a new dealer/shop to go to. And I'm assuming they want you to install a Fumoto valve just because they're lazy?

I don't know if you've changed your oil, but it kicks out a stream of oil like a garden hose. It's understandable what happened. I don't understand how you could not make a mess without taking the pan off OR installing a Fumoto.

I installed one on my first change. I'm looking forward to #2.

What do they do with Trail hunter Oil Changes, there's no access on those skid plates???? I would be really ticked if they made a mess and didn't clean it up.

did an alignment at a toyota dealer at ~5k miles and had to bring it back cause it was obviously crooked. this was when the truck was stock back in mid 2024.

dealer told me it was probably from "off-roading" but i assumed they used the 3rd gen tacoma specs because the 4th gen wasn't available at the time.

it was fixed after the 2nd visit but i'm surprised they would say they still don't have the right calibration in 2025...

One of the reasons we designed our NYTOP skid plates to be modular and without a tiny cutout is exactly to prevent this situation from happening.

This way, the techs would only need to remove 4 bolts to get the front section off to get 100% of access without making a mess. Just like the OEM plastic skids that come with the Tacoma lower trims.

I've got that skid on mine. You have to take it off; there's no access to the drain plug or the filter.

I find it a simple task. I put the truck on ramps, and remove all the bolts except the two in slotted holes. I scoot under with a creeper, set it on my chest, and scoot back out.

So you are complaining regarding a dealer doing a free oil change and not wanting to hassle and deal with an aftermarket product that was poorly designed and now THEY have to spend the extra labor and effort. A dealer gets paid a fixed price for the free oil change. For them to have all sorts of added labor, plus run the risk of stripping out and damaging your aftermarket install is not THEIR issue. IMO this is a you problem and should probably do the oil changes yourself and deal with the extra hassle.

I have the Trailhunter Skid Plates just had my first oil change and no issues. My dealer (Longo) is used to dealing with add on's and after market stuff though and they do very good work. I did once have a smaller toyota Dealership take off my 4Runners skid plate and lose all but two of the bolts and then put skid plate in the back. They played dumb when I called them when I got home. In hindsight I should have gone back and made them fix it but I just got some new bolts and bolted on and went on with my life. Just sounds like a bad dealership, i'd find a different one.

Just did my first oil change at 1k and had absolutely no issues with the skid or the oil making a mess."right in the pan it went with no mess.. in my opinion I would never let a dealer change my oil.. free or not. Look at it this way you could have gotten half way home and the engine seized without any oil in it
