@TacoWill I forgot that one - I get the rumble strip thing from time to time as well. When it is not doing one of its bad things, it is smooth as silk.

That just makes it more noticeable when it shifts like an old truck with a couple hundred thousand miles. I would be interested in hearing what your dealer has to say. I can't demonstrate my issues so I won't take it in until the mini service at 5k miles. I will be discussing this at that time, but I am not hopeful for any resolution.

I don't understand why y'all just trade in those automatic transmissions for a manual stick-shift. They never break and they row through the gears so smoothly. My 4th gen Taco has 9,600 miles with no issues.

I'll definitely report back after my 5k service. Since I can't replicate it, I doubt they'll be able to either, but I figured I'd bring it to their attention while I was at the dealer. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about, but I always try to get stuff documented either way. I haven't noticed anything else, no hard upshifts or downshift, no clunks or hard engagements going into reverse or drive. Just that occasional vibration.

Mine is a June 24 build. I can describe it has being clunky at times. Usually, it's when I'm shifting out of park or from reverse to drive.

Manuals are so much fun! I have a bad left ankle that keeps me away from them as a daily driver these days though. I'd love to find a good used 1st gen manual to mod and use as a weekend fun vehicle though.

If I end up trading in my truck a Tacoma is still a top pick for me, but it would have to be a manual. I have also thought about a 3rd gen since the strange seating position wasn't much of a problem for me.

Most of my bad shifts are subtle and not something a passenger would notice. My wife asked me to point one out because it seemed fine to her. That wasn't the case for the shifts into reverse - she asked what the hell just happened. If I had gotten out of truck and found transmission parts on the ground it wouldn't have been a surprise. It is hard to imagine that any transmission could ever shift like that and not have some serious problems.

Exactly the same for me. 4300 miles and it did this from the start. Inside TSB. August 24 build.
Thank you for the reply. A few follow up questions for you:

1. How bad is your 2 to 1 downshift when stopping/can you please describe it in more detail?
2. Can you replicate it?
3. Is it only when you brake lightly, like when you're coming to a slow, slow stop?

Thank you for your time.

Go with the new 4th gen Taco, trust me, from a guy that has owned 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen Taco's, this 4th gen Taco with that awesome turbo charger is the best one hands down.

I thought I was weird for liking the 3rd gen seating position. lol

Took it on a 5,000 mile road trip and was never uncomfortable. Honestly, I'm just comfortable behind the wheel of a Tacoma. 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen, 4th gen, I've liked them all.

Yeah - I feel the need to explain when I say I liked the 2nd and 3rd gens because many, many people hated the seating position. My height, torso/leg length or whatever always made them fit me just fine.

I'm at 14k miles and also notice a slight shudder/rumble strip feel when I'm very lightly on the gas. Doesn't matter what speed or RPM, just when I'm very lightly on the throttle trying to maintain speed. It's nothing crazy but you can definitely feel it. I'm not sure if it's always done this and I never noticed or if it's a new development. My dealer is absolutely useless, and I know they'll just tell me they either can't replicate or its normal. I have warranty so I'm not too worried about it.

It’s just a characteristic of that 4 cylinder engine. Doesn’t bother me at all.

I get some....feedback when I'm very slowly easing into a stop. its very subtle.

I kinda think it's just how the hybrid feels. Happened from day one. iforce max, outside of vin range.
