2024 Tacoma TRD Offroad Long Bed
Off-road premium with 4k miles. Smooth. I always let it idle about 1-2 minutes before I back out of my garage. Built in January but wasn’t delivered until mid-May. Guessing it was getting several QC holds while also waiting for the sway bar disconnect.
I don't ever idle when not needed and watch the engine oil and transmissions temperature before hard acceleration.

From long ago semi driving and occasional heavy equipment operating I do follow the owner's manual instructions for idle down in a fast transition from working hard to shut down.

Does anybody notice a little clatter sound sometimes when in lower RPMS and usually somewhere between 2nd and 4th gear upon medium to hard acceleration? It shifts perfect and is smooth, but almost sounds like a knock or something. I thinking its just heavier load at a lower rpm like most cars get annoyed with.

Your probably hearing the noise from the direct injectors which tend to be noisy.

Mine is not a TSB affected model, but it shifts kind of wonky. Hard into 2-3 or 3-2. Hardish at downshifts 3-2-1. Worse cold. 4k miles. Something seems a bit off about it. I'm doing a drain and fill next week in hopes a little purge helps.

With talk of these failed automatic transmissions and much confusion amongst the internet im really curious to hear how everyone’s transmission behaves. Describe your expierence, are your shifts always really smooth, are they always really hard, sometimes hard shifting, do you find the transmission to occasionally be clunky? If you have had your transmission fail please give detailed information on the symptoms leading up to the failure and the failure itself. Mileage and manufacturing date would be helpful as well to gaining a better understanding of what’s going on. I’ll start by saying my truck was built March of 2024, after 650 miles I have most of the time gotten a 1-2 “hard” shift first thing in the morning, and occasionally a rougher shift here and there while driving, most of the time the trans is smooth but in traffic I do find it to be occasionally a little “clunky” . I purchased a '24 automatic trd offroad long bed about a month ago. It currently has 900ish miles. I'm experiencing a hard downshift from 2nd to 1st when coming to a complete stop. I only seem to notice it when I'm braking very lightly. No other shifting issues, jolting, noises, etc. The truck is great except for the downshift from second to first when coming to a complete stop. The truck isn't jolting forward or shifting after the truck is stopped. This happens before the stop. It just feels like the truck won't come to a full stop smoothly. My truck it outside the tsb range, but I'm not confident there isn't an issue. I feel like a new truck should be stopping smoothly, without any noticeable sensations coming from the transmission. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar? Is it normal to feel the downshift from 2nd to 1st?

Mine has been pretty darn smooth. I think most folks cold, harder shifts in the morning is due to the idle control being slightly elevated during warmup. It will stay slightly elevated even when youre cruising, until it reaches operating temperatures. I believe mine has an august 24 build date.

I had one instance of a hard reverse shift very early on, but im in Interior Alaska, and it was -28° F, and i had only let it warm up for a few minutes.

@Andrew33 Hard shifts are never normal in any Toyota that I have owned before my 4th gen. I get the hard downshifts from 2-1 when stopping and occasionally when accelerating from 1-2.

The one that scares me are the HARD shifts into reverse. They don't happen very often, but when they do it feels like you high centered your transmission case on a rock. I can feel the shift through the body of my truck and there is no way that is normal either. It's subtle enough to where I'm the only one who can feel it happen. Other passengers don't feel anything. It also doesn't make any noise. I only feel it in my foot on the brake, so it's pretty subtle, but it's there. It's subtle enough to where I want to say it's a normal thing, but noticeable enough to make me question it.

Exactly the same for me. 4300 miles and it did this from the start. Inside TSB. August 24 build.

Yes. There are also times when my engine idles rough and loud. Doesn’t bother me. But just an observation.

2024 TRD Sport I-Force Max 4x4 with a little over 700 miles so far. Mine has been super smooth with just a few exceptions. I've noticed a slight rumble strip vibration a few times when it shifts from first to second under low throttle. It wouldn't be as noticeable if it wasn't for the fact that the transmission is so smooth the rest of the time. It's very intermittent and I can't replicate it on-demand, but I'll still mention it at my first service and see what they say. Otherwise this thing is just smooth.
