Just went to the local Toyota dealership and every Tacoma on the lot was loaded with drastically overpriced port stuff, none of which I would want. Proceeded to go to the website of a few other dealerships and same thing. These trucks are already the most expensive in class before all the port add ones. The dealerships have to make a killing off the port installed stuff. Are other regions as bad as the Southeast region?

Welcome to Gulf States Toyota Distributors. They are the worst I’ve seen for adding many unwanted options. Predator Steps!!

Predator steps for 999 lol, there are better options on Amazon for $300. We had them on our 21 4runner, not a fan of em.

SE has a well deserved bad rep from what I have seen. Check out Jim's Under invoice post in the ordering/pricing section if you're seriously looking to buy. I'm guessing you would save a good amount even with shipping.

I saw some Gulf States truck online and started to wonder if my truck was going to cost way more than I expected. Checked with my dealer and it only had two port options - door edge protectors and tailgate letters.

So not all regions bend over consumers the way Gulf States do. You may have to shop around and travel a bit, but you don't have to let them add expensive stuff that you don't want.

SET (Southeast Toyota) is the worst. They even have their own options and packages; plus, if I read it right, they only include 6 gallons of fuel with your purchase.
Toyota doesn't seem to care. SET was a distributor before Toyota had its own network, so as long as they're making money, it's all good.

I live in Georgia, so I can relate. I don’t think it was mentioned here, yet, but most SET dealerships add the ToyoGuard Platinum crap for $699 to every Tacoma. I asked my local dealership if they could request a Tacoma without it and they said no. When I asked why, they wouldn’t provide any details, just that they could not sell a Tacoma without it ($$$).

So, I kept looking around and eventually found a Tacoma I liked at a dealership three hours away in Tennessee that didn’t add that junk to their vehicles. They were super easy to work with every step of the way, from putting down a deposit, giving me an estimate for my trade, keeping me updated on the build process, to taking delivery of my truck. I picked up my truck last Saturday and absolutely love it so far. It’s a TRD Off-Road in solar octane with the premium package, which was a difficult combo to find near me. Sad to hear that color is being discontinued for 2025, but that may make my truck more unique, especially where I live. It is my favorite color on this truck and I was willing to wait until I found one with the options I wanted.

South East is terrible about that and so is Gulf States. I am lucky to be the Central Atlantic region, which is much better. My only port options were door edge guards and tailgate letters, which I have already removed, so only $99 for something I didn't want.

@FirstTimeTruckBuyer Your SO Taco looks great - I think that is an amazing color. Congrats.

@TacoFreak Thanks! I’d been driving white vehicles for the last 15 years and was ready for a change. BTW, Terra is my favorite of the Pro colors.

@FirstTimeTruckBuyer Thanks! Terra was my first and only choice and I was super lucky that one was allocated to the dealer where I had a deposit. I just got it back from getting PPF and that really makes the color pop - it looks even better than when it was delivered.

The very first time I saw a 4th gen on the road it was a SO Off-Road driving in full sun. I finally understood the name because it was shining like the sun and looked amazing.
