Thanks, I just ordered the Carista unit.
I swapped out the trailpipe with the TRD Pro one. It is quieter in the cabin. I feel the droning is gone. Most likely due to the fact the exhaust no longer dumps below the cabin. The tone is still there when you hit the gas but if you’re looking to further reduce cabin noise you can look into this.

The TRD Pro exhaust tucks up against the body and shouldn’t be in the way. Not as well as the Trail exhaust tip but it should be fine most of the time.

It looks SUPER clean. I plan to own this truck for 10+ years though and I'd hate for something so small to set me back early. Damn monkey mind is bouncing me all over the place.
I'm confident that Toyota thought about longevity impacts because it's part of their brand identity. And it wouldn't have been offered if there were any concerns at all. After 20yr with previous Toyota I don't buy the carbon soot concern either, never once had traces of exhaust on the prior bumper and the exhaust ended 2" shy of the bumper face.

I swapped out the standard exhaust for the trail dump for pure aesthetic reasons. I would have preferred to keep the resonator, but the change in acoustics to my ear is small (I think it honestly changed more from swapping the fe

I don't buy any of the arguments on longevity. Longevity is part of the Toyota branding and something they take very seriously. If there was any concern on impact, I don't think they would have offered the trail dump as an option at all on any trim or as an accessory. I also don't buy the carbons soot consideration because in 20 years of my prior Toyota V6 with an exhaust that ended 2 in before the bumper, never did I have any sort of buildup on the bumper edge.

I switched from the standard exhaust to the trail dump purely for aesthetic reasons. I would have loved to keep the resonator, but it wasn't an option without having to cut and fabricate myself. The acoustics changed slightly becoming a touch deeper to my ear, but not overly strong. Strong. I feel like I had more acoustic impact by changing the splash shield from the felt one to the composite plastic ones.

I like that but isn’t it like $750?
Part number?
Is it just a bolt on end piece or a whole new exhaust?

PT226-35241-02. It is just the rear section. Bolts in where the trail pipe does. It was $704 but I think there is an additional $50 off right now. Whether the cost is worth it is an individual decision and your mileage may vary.

re longevity. What you are saying may be true but Toyota does sell the TRD air filter which I believe is oiled and there have been people who have had problems with oiled filters in the long run. So yes I believe they have longevity in mind but I’m thinking beyond 250,000+ miles. I had a 2002 Tundra with 400,000 miles at work that had slightly inefficient cats and was burning slightly dirty. I would like to avoid dumping that exhaust under the bed.

For the record I don’t think the trail pipe will be an issue for 99.99% of people but since I am planning to keep the Tacoma for a while I do see some potential in my use case.

Curious, Toyota's website says it 'Produces a deep, throaty, award-winning exhaust note'. Guessing your truck is a Trailhunter? I wonder what the sound difference would be for an OR. I don't want any extra tone, I like the stock, just not crazy about how it looks.

Did you do the swap yourself? Looks like it is bolt on not welded?
