So our unit is simply a power supply.

In the thinkware U3000 case, the power supply (OBD power adapter in your case) powers the front camera. The rear camera is powered from the front camera as it is daisy chained to the front. If your camera already comes with the OBD power adapter, it would make sense just to stick to that. Our new parking mode adapters would basically just replace the OBD power adapter but you're basically spending a little bit of money to route a couple less feet of wiring.

The use case for our products is that most cameras do not come with an OBD power adapter and rely solely on USB power to the cigarette lighter port, or car's built-in USB ports. These pretty much never allow power when the vehicle is off. Our new parking mode adapters totally support 2 channel dashcams and parking mode.. in your case, you aren't really gaining anything.
@Dongar If I got a USB splitter for two USBs do you think it it would be able to power the Viofo dashcam and an RJ11 to escort radar detector?

Hey Tacoma4g forum!

We're Dongar, a small Northern California based company offering the most innovative dashcam installation products on the market! :)

Did you know that Toyota placed two plastic covers over the 4g Tacoma fusebox? This means you cannot use a hardwire kit for your dashcam install! (read more about it here: https://www.tacoma4g.com/forum/threads/dash-cam-solutions-for-2024-tacoma.1869/post-55365) But fret not! Our innovative plug-n-play dashcam adapters convert the power already going to your rearview mirror into a convenient 5V USB power source, perfect for your dashcam!

What is it?:
Our dashcam power adapters are USB converts integrated into a plug-n-play harness designed specifically to work with the autodimming mirror or OEM dashcam connector in your Toyota Tacoma. These adapters require no tools and can be installed in minutes! Simply access and unplug your rearview mirror connector, and install the Dongar adapter between your rearview mirror and your truck's electrical harness. Stick the USB module on your windshield, and connect your camera. That's it! Now your dashcam will turn on and off when you start the truck!

Do you happen to know what size push mount zip ties Toyota uses up there? I know I'm going to hear some rattling with the wires sitting free

There's a ton of different part numbers for these clips so unsure which holes you're trying to specifically use. I'd probably go for one of these generic kits with different sizes: https://www.amazon.com/Xislet-Universal-Compatible-Wrangler-Restraint/

I actually also prefer stick-on mounts to give you more flexibility. Just make sure they have real 3M VHB adhesive tape on em like these: https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-12410BL/Cable-Ties-and-Tools/Cable-Tie-Mounts-3-4-Black

Gotcha thanks! I just saw some white ones in the roof used for other wires and I think there were some empty slots. I'll probably try the 3m ones. I was very impressed with 3m adhesive holding up in my jeeps ending bay for 6 years haha.

I have a Blackvue DR900X-2CH dash cam. Front and rear cameras, power magic box, currently hardwired.

if I buy, their OEM cigarette lighter power adapter and this other adapter, can I use yours? That’s a lot of adpaters…

Thanks!

I just ordered mine for the new Tacoma. Shipping September 9th... I'll wait with baited breath.
Camera is the ROVE R2-4K Pro - so we'll see how it goes.

I have an older 10 pin kit that I installed with my Garmin Mini 2. It came with longer cables so I tucked the kit inside the plastic cover for a cleaner look.

I got both pieces. All I need now is the truck to install it in.

I don’t know how I missed that. Thanks!

For a 2-channel cam, can I run a wire from the front camera through that dome light cavity, above the headliner to the back window?
@Ruissimo Following up on your post about running wire to the back window camera. Were you able to go above the headliner or did you use a different path?

I ran mine in the headline along the passenger side. I had a lot of wire left over and ended up just tucking it behind the the back seat. I couldn’t stuff it all in the headliner

Another forum member has brought to my attention that the 4G Tacoma domelight assembly might have 4 red 'clips' that must be released (instead of just the 2,+ sliding, in my video). Regardless of the domelight assembly, you'll still find the white 5-pin connector immediately in the cavity on the driver's side:

Confirmed this was the case for my TRD Sport, built in October. Luckily I suddenly had a vague recollection of seeing this post during the install, so I didn't fight it too long.
