Falken AT4W - 285/65/18 - SL anyone?

Anyone try this tire configuration on their rig? If so, can you post pictures? I've got the Falkens in LT275/70/18 and they are amazing in every way except they ride hard and considering moving to an SL, but hesitant to lose the extra ground clearance I've gained with the taller tires (33.43" versus 32.6"--YES, it makes a big difference despite the small numbers on paper as our sidewalls on 18" wheels are so short - I have gained about 0.4" ground clearance in the back and 0.25" up front). Also, if anyone has experience with a standard or C load offering in this exact size, please post (Grabber ATX, Nitto G3, or anyone else who offers one--a strong recommendation would be great).

I put the AT4Ws on my Trailhunter yesterday in 265/70/18 SL, stock size. It's slightly taller than a 285/65/18 on paper. I'll let you know how they go. I wanted to stay away from a LT tire due to the weight and ride difference.

Taller? I thought both were 32.6”

I’m on my ranch now and while I don’t like the ride quality of the LT AT4Ws, they are fucking beasts off-road .. jagged rocks, aggressive grades, the tires don’t give a crap. Super tough. And aired down they ride nice. I am trying to sort out whether someone in Houston can “hotel” my tires like they do up north so that I can buy an SL for around town and then throw on the LTs for the ranch.

@tacorancher how did the SL AT4w's turn out? I'm looking high and low for the lightest weight 285/65/18 all terrain tire. Seems like very very limited options out there. Obviously want to stay away from +60lb 10 ply tires...the weight will zap performance, ride quality, and MPG in a hurry.

So far the options I've found in the 285/65/18 size are:

-Falken WP AT4W - 51 pounds
-Falken WP AT3W - 41 pounds !!
-Yokohama Geolandar X-AT - 46 pounds
-Nitto Recon Grappler - 47 pounds

Factory 265/65/18 tires on the Sport are 36 pounds...

265/70/18 SL ATW4's are great !

Handling and ride quality are better than the stock tires. Traction is great but we havn't had enough snow for a proper test. No complaints with light offroad driving.

I run falken at4w on my 23 4runner and just got them in for my tacoma. Waiting for my icon rebound pros to come before I throw them on but I can say without a doubt they are hands down the best AT I've ever ran. Any conditions. Nothing touches them. Worth the extra weight, for sure.

I am running the 6 ply on my tacoma and same on the 4runner - 10 ply is way, way too stiff.

Thanks for the feedback. The 285/65/18 looks so dang good on these trucks...not too tall, a little wider stance...it's perfect!...just unfortunate there aren't more options in SL rating! This pic is not my truck, it's another members' from a FB group. It's a beauty with those K03's!

Go with the Falkens in SL. I compared them to other brands in person and the extra weight goes into the sidewall. The SL from Falken is more like a C load. I know nobody will believe me but I’m telling you it’s a robust tire. They didn’t seem any less strong than the E loads I had before. They are firm for an SL though.
