Hybrid system malfunction

I hear you. I bought the intake for the looks, "more airflow", and turbo noises it can make all while being original....

However the issue is hybrid malfunction and the tech updated me saying they don't know if this is causing the issue but that their is a code coming up as well for MA sensor
Gotcha.

Ive been working on heavy machinery and vehicles my whole career. It is just as computer intense as passenger vehicles. As such, I diagnose and troubleshoot lots of computer related issues on these vehicles.

Sometimes, actually lots of times, you get secondary codes that are seemingly unrelated to the symptom, its usually because that system is tied into other systems, like a web. When one value is off, it could throw another value off, and the computer isnt smart enough to know that you purchased a pro style intake. It may take that value change and see it as a potential failure.

Lets say...That hybrid system may only turn on when a certain MAF signal is X-Y-Z....So now its expecting a hybrid signal, and its not getting it, hence the hybrid code.

The first and most logical thing i would absolutely do, is revert it back to stock form to eliminate that part from the equation. I can absolutely see why they are requesting that.

Time is money for a mechanic, he does not want to potentially be chasing a ghost, which is a very real thing.

Yours might be a different issue. But my Trailhunter Hunter threw the same Hybrid System Malfunction code. Toyota ended up replacing the Transmission, torque converter and Hybrid battery.

Update !:

The initial report states Code 010064 MAF Airflow "A" Signal Plausibility Failure.

The technician stated they found MAF screws loose and retorqued to spec and tested it. Code popped up

The technician erased the code grabbed a new one from a brand new truck and drove it around again and same code popped up.

I have reinstalled OEM intake and they are going to further diagnosis.

Note: The service advisor informed if they find any reason that it was caused by my install I would be liable for a diagnostic fee.

after switching the airbox back to OEM and Toyota performed a learning value test, the codes are no longer there.

the dealer is stating that I did not put the TRD air box incorrectly. You really can't install the box wrong

however, I have two complaints:
1. they initially said the screws for the MAF sensor screws were loose and torqued it back to spec. However when I reinstalled the OEM one they didn't check my work (I asked). So it was not my workmanship on installing the part.
2. if they "torqued" my bolts and it looks like I did a good job reinstalling OEM wouldn't it lead anyone to believe that it's the part that is defective?

I am just trying to get information on whether or not this is an issue for other i-force max users who don't come with the CAI from the factory. I'm just heated that I have a 400-dollar part that was supposed to guarantee fitment and performance upon installation. That's why I decided not to go the aftermarket route.

At this point, my options are to talk to parts and try to get a return on these parts since I will say it's defective in my opinion. Or I go further down the rabbit hole and let the dealership install it. However, I feel like the same problem with MAF will happen again.

Any thoughts I have till Monday to pick up the truck.



I would also like to note my service advisor is really not rubbing me the right way he didn't call me after the second diagnostic and sent me an invoice of 220 dollars for performing a leaning value test on the OEM part. He did not give me a call like any other advisor at this dealership. Clearly did not want confrontation. additionally, on every single call I've had with this person, they have not been transparent with their finding I had to grill him. I called the general line and asked for the service manager to waive this fee, they instead transferred me over to him without my knowledge and he waived it himself(why didn't you do that originally).

Here or Tacomaworld? Won’t hurt to throw the old one back on, then you’ll know for sure…MAS codes would be the box unless it got damaged during the swap?
Hey so I threw it back on and no more codes dealer tried charging me for diagnostic that isn’t warranty. It seems like it’s box and I doubt parts will want to refund me could you send me a link to where you found out about this problem?
