I had been holding off on buying metal skid protection for the underside of my Tacoma, but was recently given an opportunity to try out @TRUMGETA TRUMGETA's offering and share my opinion. I'll start off by saying that it was shipped extremely quickly and the product was packaged nicely. It's an aluminum skid plate that's about 1/4" thick, and appears to be nearly identical to the TRD Pro's OEM skid plate minus the red lettering. It's got all the same features (including the cutouts for draining water and mud and the same slotted bolt openings which allow for ease of installation and removal). If you have a TRD Off Road, this thing will pop right in. Other models will need a front cross member to attach the front bolts to. It's also powder coated, so if you wanted to paint it, it would be very easy. Personally, I'm fine with it being a basic grey color, but if your truck is lifted and you wanted to 'show it off,' it's primed and ready for a coat of whatever color you'd like. I was very impressed with the quality of this thing at first glance and after handling it and slapping it on my truck.

I put a link to the store page above if any of you are interested in checking it out. It looks like it's priced right around the same as the OEM skid plate. I don't have one of those to compare this one to, but it definitely appears to be every bit as robust as the Toyota version, and it doesn't weigh a ton like some of the steel options that are out there. I like that it's easier to take off than the stock plastic guards since there's two fewer bolts, and you don't need to hassle as much over lining things up thanks to the slotted bolt openings in the skid plate. Feel free to share your thoughts, or if any of you have this skid plate and want to share your opinions of it. Thanks for reading!

Looks nice. After just having installed skid plate as well, I think you'll appreciate having the added protection.

Not sure why anyone would opt for this one over the OEM version given the price equivalence. It also doesn’t add 5 horsepower since it lacks the TRD lettering. Pass.

Agreed. I was given this skid plate, so for me, it was free. There really isn't a good reason to choose one over the other, but it's always cool to have options! Who knows? Maybe somebody out there doesn't want the extra 5 horsepower from the red lettering? I think the OEM version also normally retails for $520, but there's almost always a sale going on somewhere. I do like that this one is powder coated, so if I ever did want to paint it, it would be super easy.

The price of this is not competitive enough. This needs to be like $2-300 to compete with the OEM TRD one.

@Cabby30 hard to disagree there. Although, it is essentially identical (same material and thickness) minus the lettering
do you know if the trd plate is powder coated, bare aluminum, or painted?

It’s fairly heavy gauged, stamped aluminum, and I think you’d be hard pressed to find anything on the market that’s comparable in the price range you’ve specified, but I could be wrong. The offerings out there from American companies like Cali Raised LED or MCI are significantly pricier, and even more so for their aluminum counterparts vs the steel ones.

Can’t beat free. Probably the same supplier honestly.

OEM is just raw aluminum, same as my last two trucks
