Just took delivery of my OR Premium, I think the stereo sounds ok. It won't win any awards, mind you but played a couple bass heavy tracks and seemed to hold its own. I may change my mind when I get in on the highway and have to turn it up lol.

For a premium system, a three channel equalizer is a crime.

I use Apple CarPlay in my limited and I find the audio to be incredible, very rarely do I go above volume 30. I’ve seen a few posts questioning the JBL quality, and frankly I don’t understand it, I find the bass especially good. My other vehicle (Audi) has a Sonos and it’s great, but I think I prefer the JBL in my Tacoma.

Yea. I’ve got my truck now and with the treble, mid, and bass turned ALL the way up, and the volume past 35, it sounds okay, but it’s about 50 percent of what I was hoping for. The Harman Kardon upgraded audio in the Subaru forester that I traded in puts the Tacoma to shame. My Tacoma sounds as if the majority of the sound is coming out of the little removable speaker in the dash. I guess I’m going to eventually try and get a small amp installed that I can conceal some where without losing my underseat storage, and probably swap out the 8” sub for something like a Rockford Fosgate, or JL Audio, but it’ll really just depend if the magnet on the better subs is too large to fit in the conformal box behind the seat.

I have found that if you adjust the balance more toward the back, the sound is much better. I clicked the fader adjustment back 3 clicks toward the back and that seems to be the sweet spot. You can’t turn it up as loud, but you get more of a surround sound with the back more prominent than the front. Hope this helps. Can’t wait u til someone comes out with a nice plate to replace the dash speaker. I will also say that moving the balance toward the back reduces the amount of midrange coming out of the portable speaker.
