I've been planning to get a hybrid OR...but I need a LB. I'm starting to think, despite the price tag, the TH juice might be worth the squeeze. The OR hybrid is already a buttload and, with the add-ons I want, it's almost TH price territory. I am not a fan of the sport bar or snorkel, but the other TH perks are nice but not needed.

Ideal OR spec:
  • TRD OR ($41,800)
  • i-FORCE MAX ($4,800)
  • Upgrade Package ($4,330)
  • SDM ($1,230)
  • Long-bed...not a thing ($500)
Aftermarket
  • Rock sliders ($1,500)
  • ~2" Lift (~$2,000)
Total: ~$58,500

For a relative $6k more, I'd get beefy shocks and UCA, three skid plates, exhaust dump, R/T tires, heated/cooled SofTex, digital RVM, HUD, 3D camera view, air compressor, heated steering wheel, power tailgate, recovery points, and a sport bar I could sell for ~$500. There's some fluff in there for sure, but +$6k upgrade for all that isn't insane.

Meanwhile I'm seeing TH marked down by $5k in some places. ORs are probably similar. So relative price for me is $54k for sufficiently loaded OR, or $60k for a TH...+TTL. I could cross my fingers and wait for a '26 LB Hybrid OR, get a '25 non-MAX LB, or swing for a TH.

I see now why Toyota hid the Hybrid LB behind a big up-sale. Suckers like me are actually considering it.
where did you see them marked down? I may chance new instead of waiting if the price is right and I like the long bed version over everything else.

Like they said, all the other things are great but the gas mileage is awful! And I went into it expecting 3 below EPA estimates. Not 7-8 below.
Plus its tiny fuel tank is nothing to write home about.

I don't see use mentioned in your post. My shopping was long, I tested several models, and it included the halo models. All the models and grades were nice for their niche. My hesitation was I would not want to have a Trail Hunter as my every day and road trip vehicle even though I actually do work that is off road. As much as trail building, ski area crew and my sports are honest frequent off road use, that still means street and highway use.

Now starting 7 months of use, thousands of miles, max payload carrying, some towing, I'm really happy I made those careful considerations. I have no idea of what your use scenario is but as someone who is doing off road driving and work often, my long bed OR is still the best of several pickups I've owned, and I'm really glad I did not make other choices available.
I would’ve bought a Pro or OR hybrid if they came in a LB. Decided to go TH and part out a couple things. Although I like the idea of overlanding my reality is quicker adventures, shorter durations (big dogs at home). Primitive campsites w/bathrooms. The TH has all these adventure goodies but they all can be put to work on the job site as well.

The wife doesn’t drop deuces in Home Depot buckets (overland-style), we can afford hotels and when I’m solo I try to avoid both the van dweller scene and the dudes who just drive with their entire garage bolted to the side of their tacos. TH might be kinda more Gucci of a Tacoma but when you’re at a campsite next to a Cybertruck or R1T you look more regular and simply blend in.
Yea, good call on the use-case. I'm looking for an all-or-many-purpose machine. I want it for commuting, work/home hauling, off-roading (beach/rock/snow, less mudding), dog packing, primitive camping (not overlanding per se), work/tailgate powering, road tripping...everything but towing and vanlife.

The only "need" is a LB. Could I get by with a SR5 LB 4WD (42.5k)? Probably. But the hybrid, rear locker, 2400W, multi-link, big screen, and safety features are all big selling points for me. And like all previous cars I've owned, I plan on driving it until it can't be driven--which historically is a long time on a new Toyota. Of other cars, I've driven barebones entry-level and all-the-stops trims. The QoL features are absolutely appreciated in the long run.

TH is a bit Gucci and I abhor a flaunt. There might be a good bit of de-badging if I get one, maybe even a snorkel delete. But I want it for the utility, not the status. Or at least that's what my mid-life ass is telling myself.

Anecdotally, Reddit for one TH fella, TacomaWorld for another. Cars.com is showing ~11 TH in the 60-61k range.

Edit: oh, big caveat. Those cheaper TH are all in Hawaii for whatever reason, save one "new" TH in MD with 4k miles on it.

I couldn't sworn I read that HUDs were included on Limited trims and above from Toyota's website. And didn't @SnowmanJPS confirm his 2025 white Pro has HUD? It would be silly if Toyota removed HUD from the Halo trims.
Yes I do in fact have an HUD, I think it was just a misprint on the Toyota website

Delay gratification, trying stuff and analyzing the pros and cons is what I force on myself.

Everything about the two halo models was great for what they are but they sure stood out as for niches and overkill for even someone like me who is doing work off road fairly often. Just testing in rain and 4 different Tacoma versions navigating a same freeway ramp told me a lot.

Yea, you're right. LBOR would be enough for my needs. For $50k I could get the Upgrade package and a moonroof and have plenty creature comforts. If they offered hybrid or MT in a LB, it'd be a different story.

Yes.. They quoted 22-24 for the Hybrid models.. But I figured with bigger tires and winch up front, that would knock it down to 18-20.. Even stock the best I got was 16.. Hover at 15 mor or less.. Range from my 2008 4Runner took a HUGE hit. When asked the Toyota engineers at Overland East about much smaller gas tank, they shrugged and said that with better MPG the range would be about the same. NOT. My range is 220-240, maybe.. My previous range was 400 or better.. And they are still not listening to us.. Did the 25 TH get a bigger tank? No.. This is pretty pathetic from a company that used to the top of reputability.

I wouldn’t try to dissuade you from a TH. I’d buy one before a pro, but I think there’s much more value in the OR non-hybrid. I negotiated 7k off for a 55k spec with long bed, premium package, and spray on bed liner, so 48k even. So serious money off deals are out there that reduce your value comparison.

You buy the hybrid for more power, not mileage as many have shared, do you think the non hybrid is underpowered? My opinion based on my taco is no, it’s plenty powerful.

OTOH, the TH is turnkey and looks great and will likely have the highest longterm resale of all new Tacos. One unknown that may also get you is dealer add ons that aren’t listed in any adds. I’ve see dealer adding 10k on TH for wax, scotchguard, PPF, etc.

While having the entire package under warranty, it’s of little value to have all the add on’s under warranty. Rock rails, roof racks, bed bars, etc don’t tend to need much warranty attention.

Lastly, with any large purchase, you have other options. Is the TH truly better than an F150 Lariat or Tundra limited?

You be you and no judgment with your choices from me.

Agree on like all of the accounts. I think I'm going to try to broaden my aperture and make the call when I have real offers in hand. 7k off a OR LB premium sounds great, as would 5k off a TH, or 6k off a 51k base OR. Considering barebones is sufficient for me and fully loaded is within my budget, I can really just feel out the best bang for my buck once the wildly varying price points become apparent.

That RADICALLY CHANGES MY SEARCH/PURCHASE.
