I'm about 7000 mi. (3 months) into this truck and noticed some strange mpg numbers being reported at the end of my drives. Typically during week i.e. workdays the system reports about 9 mpg due to the drives being about 1-2 miles (not enough data or cold starts?) with the random trip up to boise (50 miles cruising at 80-85 mph) with about 18-19 mpg. However this weekend the end of drive reporting has displayed some crazy increases in mpg in both city and highway. Came down the mountain and it was reporting almost 40 mpg! Drove back home (50 miles at 85 mph) and it gave me 23 mpg. Gassed up and drove a few miles and 25 mpg was reported. I've put in some serious highway miles and have never seen it this good. The fuel gauge now reports 310-315 instead of the usual 290. Do these systems update or get "broken in" after a certain time frame? All stock and premium gas since day one.

I have a slight uphill drive to work that's about 90% freeway and I usually get 20-21 going to work, and 29-30 coming home. I've got 3k miles and I wouldn't be surprised if it does have a learning period

Coming down the mountain is a clue, it takes very little fuel when gravity is taking over, I've gotten well over 100 mpg going down mountains.

A big point I've been noticing is air pressure for me; when increase the PSI by 2-4 on the fronts. I can gain a few mpg on identical drives

The downhill part adds up, can't seem to figure out the highway driving at 85 mph. Ive noticed in the past at about 75mph the mpg begins to level out then dip, so maybe I had a 10 mph+ tailwind?

What kind of pressure are you running?
Haven't touched them. Messing through the dash displays I saw they were 40 psi. I know the dealer sells at high psi and people have had to air them down. Didn't see it as high priority.

LOL! Used to get great mileage with my '72 Beetle. I'd tailgate a tractor trailer and the vacuum would basically pull me along.
