Yeah - whether we approve of this stuff or not it is happening, and it is what it is.

I don' think Tacomas will go up 25%, but I am pretty sure this will mean more price inflation no matter what happens. The halos were already out of reach for many loyal Taco buyers, and this will just make things worse IMO.

I'm just glad I bought my truck last year, because a Pro or TH could easily be out of reach for me soon.

It will likely be used as a bargaining chip. Toyota may negotiate a carve-out on the tariffs in exchange for a promise to move or create more jobs in the U.S. In the meantime, they will need time to wind down their operations in Mexico or, most likely, build a different model, which will naturally take years. Additionally, the trade agreement (formally known as NAFTA) that was revised a few years ago is up for renewal in 2026.

I would be shocked if it came to fruition. The amount of trade between these countries is enormous; the cost of a Tacoma will be insignificant once you start considering the other affected items.
Well, I guess I'm shocked.
Some quick thoughts: Toyota will do the right thing and absorb the tariff for any customer who has a vehicle on order that might be impacted. In the short term, they'll cover the cost while seeking an exemption—or, forget that, they'll just pass it on immediately.

I think the auto manufacturers will watch each other closely to see how they are reacting And what moves they start making. In the very short term, I think Toyota and dealers may absorb some of it, just to clear out current inventory. They will probably offer 0% financing as an offset to higher prices that may be passed through to the consumer.

As someone else pointed out, even American made vehicles have foreign components. I’m not certain if the tariffs will be based on the percentages or whole product country of origin, so hairs will be split by all the “internet experts”, largely based on guesswork until the manufacturers adjust to the new market reality.

I would be surprised if Toyota raises prices on trucks already in the pipeline, but I would also be surprised if they don't raise prices sometime in the future. Midsize trucks are already expensive enough to hold back their sales, and this will just make that worse.

A Sacramento dealer GM was interviewed by the local new and he said prices would rise immediately following the enactment. Of course, he’s the head of a dealers sales, so he’s probably lying. Lol.

No way of knowing until it happens.

The tariffs will be applied as a 25% tax on the value of the item being imported, regardless of where the parts came from. So that will be significant for vehicles assembled in Mexico.

A lot of the parts in even US assembled vehicles come from Mexico and Canada so that will raise prices on them too.

How each manufacturer will handle this will be interesting to see, since I already have my truck.

Good job on that warning @Administrator.

I almost didn't start this thread way back when because it could invite political discussion, which we do not need on a truck forum. Let's hope we can keep it that way now too.

I think all of us with our Taco’s feel the same way about already owning our tacos. I think there’s going to be a bit of Popcorn Theater for us as we watch how this drama Show goes down.

Please accept my apologies folks. I guess I don't understand how discussions on the subject of tariffs can be meaningful or interesting without getting into "policy." If I offended anyone with my post earlier, I'm sorry. I certainly don't think I was being disrespectful, but I also think adults can have discussions without getting into personal attacks or insults. Uh, boo tariffs, I guess. Have fun guys!

I have a truck on order. Delivery probably early April. I asked my dealer about the tariffs and they said Toyota has not given them any guidance on the situation. I think we need to let this play out. Nothing we can do about it. I suspect this is political posturing by the administration for negotiation purposes. In other words, toss a grenade at the problem, and hope for a better outcome.
