I doubt anyone has anything to worry about. Trump is stating this in Nov hoping Mex/Can become more involved in the borders we share before Jan. I'm sure if there is positive reaction between now and Jan 20th little or no tariffs will be imposed. This is only to get the respected countries to do more controlling what moves across their borders.
This👆. Plus, 60% of our imported oil is from Canada. So, how is that going to work?

A lot of campaign rhetoric on Trump's part. I think the border issue will play a big part in how he deals with Mexico. If Trump and the Mexican President can come to some kind of compromise, I think Tacoma's will still flow into the country at the going rate, not that we're all happy with that rate at the present, anyway.

Some good points, and this was a question i had for my local dealer when i placed an order for 2025 two weeks ago, he said. David the price may change from 300 to 700 dollars, they are already prepared in a way. Also. If yo take few minutes today, google all the plants that toyota hasin the united states. , now add up all of the employees toyota has working for them , that are us citazens? Now add up the school trade programs toyota has linked to the local communities its in , ex kentucky, and indiana ? Toyota will take this on the chin and continue making vehicles, like sombody else suggestead above im sure this will be all carved out and worked before trump blows every auto manufacturer out of work……
But let's get real, a dealer will tell you the truck cures cancer if that's what it takes to close the sale.

Donald Trump announced today that he intends to impose across the board 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico the day he is inaugurated.

Does that mean a 25% increase in the price of a Tacoma? Toyota might absorb some of that, but it has to mean huge price increases on Tacomas and it will price a lot of us out of the Tacoma market. I bet Toyota wishes they had expanded in Texas, rather than Mexico.

Even with a wonky transmission I'm glad I already have my Tacoma.
Trump signed the USMCA pact in 2020 and now he is going to try to change the rules.

However it plays out , called my dealer yesterday, trucks start run on the 1 st of december, he will see the builds that week, be able to pin point my truck , ill feel good then , i put $1000.00 dep pn 2 weeks ago , to hopefully getting a truck without the useless port add ons…. ,

Yeah - and businesses hate that. They have to work around all kinds of rules and it is hard to hit a moving target.

I just read a more detailed analysis of what tariffs would mean to the auto industry. Honda has already announced that it would mean price increases on many models and all of the industry watchers predict large price increases for many major automakers. So these industry watchers seem to think the costs will be passed directly on to customers. How many people will want a Pro or Trailhunter priced over $82k?

Something I had not thought about was that even assembly plants in the US will be affected because many of the components they use are made in Mexico and Canada. So prices would go up even on cars/trucks assembled in this country.

If you are in the market for a Tacoma now might be a good time to get one, because this could be a big shock to the auto industry. In some areas there are many 4th gens on lots and I hear that there are deals being offered on them.

There is a threat of tariffs only if Canada and Mexico do not help secure the border. I highly doubt Mexico is going to let this happen.

I hope that is how this turns out.You are right and the analysis was just might happen if they take effect. The US has made demands on Mexico in the past about the border and had some success.

I am a contractor who writes software, some of it for the auto industry and contractors are the first to be laid off when business declines. So I not only want to see Tacomas remain on the market but I would love to still have a job.

Sticking strictly to automotive, let's not forget that Tacoma engines are made in Alabama. Mexico has already stated that it will impose retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods, so there's that.

Now that this issue is making headlines, there seems to be general agreement that implementing widespread tariffs would be economic suicide. Canada has already initiated discussions to address the situation. While some tariffs are likely to take effect, they may be more targeted. I'm not particularly concerned about Mexico or Canada; however, I'm already considering moving up some purchases due to the uncertainty and the importance of the country of origin.

Hopefully it does not come to increased prices. But China, Mexico, and Canada have all said tarrifs would just lead to more tarrifs in response or large scale economic issues.

Trudeau had the most modest response so far, "This is a relationship that we know takes a certain amount of working on, and that's what we'll do"

Mexico not as modest:

“One tariff would be followed by another in response, and so on until we put at risk common businesses”

The markets clearly think this could be an issue based on the value of the Peso and Loonie. I think the hurdle to avoid tarrifs, is what's being asked in return. Blaming US drug and gang problems problems on China, Canada, and Mexico makes the negotiation harder IMO. Only time will tell.

Mexico is a major hub of automotive production in the western hemisphere, built up over the last 3 decades from the result of free trade policy and globalization. Ford, Chevy, Toyota, VW, Mazda, Nissan, Audi all have huge plants in Mexico. Much of the material and parts come from Canada. 80% of Mexico’s auto production comes to the US. Everybody is benefiting from the arrangement. Pulling the rug out from NAFTA or the exact same thing trump “renegotiated” called CMFGA or whatever it was, and going all isolationist or whatever isn’t going to make for a productive partnership. We don’t have the labor force or investment in plants and factories to go backwards to making all our own cars and trucks, there is record low unemployment and our standard of living is too high to supply the cheap labor to keep prices down where we can afford our beloved automobiles. Double down on that if you expel all undocumented workers. Anyhow, this is all posturing and it won’t actually happen I hope. This has fuckall to do with fentanyl, it’s just some chest beating to make everyone think we’re batshit crazy and hopefully concede on other negotiations
