Man, so torn. I have 2024 Pro and I just went through this whole tread. I was set on just tossing a set of 275/70-18 on the stock wheels but now I'm debating on getting a 17 inch wheel and tossing a 285/70 tire on that. Same boat, I don't want to run an "E" load tire. Figure I can go to a "C" load BFG.

Ran a "C" load tire (285) on my 3rd gen and really liked it. Worked great for daily commute and worked awesome when weighed down with a tent and gear for camping.

So, I think both work fine, but when I switched to lighter wheels and tires the truck just handles better. Turning feels sharp and it has more pep. That said, I lost 0.25” ground clearance which sucks. My Flaken 275/70/18s were 33.43” tall and were the perfect size. But my current 285/70/17s are more zippy. Depends on what you care about more. Do you need more slow speed over landing and ground clearance or more aggressive driving? You could also grab some E load Toyos in 275/70/18 which are lighter than most and could be a good middle ground.

Does anyone know if a 285/70/18 will fit under a Trailhunter in the spare location? How much extra space does it seem like you have? Is it at least 1/2"?

A hair smaller than I’d like, but there was zero performance hit. Best looking sizes are closer to 34”.

I went with 275/70/18's. Looks way better than stock, just a hair bigger, gives me the same sidewall as I had with my 285/70/17s on the old 4Runner, and the spare BARELY fit. We had to deflate it to get it up in there.

It’s a lot bigger. And yes it looks a ton better. Perfect size.
