How important do you guys think a regear will be if I go up to 315's? I didn't think about that before when considering my cost.
What’s the diameter ? 35”? One thing about this truck that toyota nailed is this thing doesn’t need a regear on almost any sized tire. It’s that low end electric motor torque hit that accommodates most sizes. And even if you don’t have a hybrid I’m not hearing any issues.

315/70/17 so 34.7" and they're C2's. Hopefully that's what I need.

This is stressful!

You’ll be removing those crash plates. But you won’t need a regear. That is my prediction.

Another random question for you @tacorancher. Did you buy a full sized spare when you upgraded? Kinda worried about trying to limp back on the stock spare if I'm going up in size so much... but I know it won't fit under the truck either.

I ended up not going up in size that much - I’m only 0.2” more diameter - so I kept stock spare and original lugs — I also got a sidewall repair kit and a traditional tire repair kit

Fair choice. I'm definitely getting a repair kit. This really makes me reconsider the size increase.

So I got the 35's on with 17in wheels and +25 offset. It looks really good, but I'm getting a bit of rubbing at full turn from something inside the wheel well (not the fender), and I'm trying to figure out if it can be replaced with a smaller part. Still need to do some more testing and see if there are any other issues.

Nice. So this is with zero removal and cutting so far? Definitely watching to learn from your experience. I'd really like to get 35s, but am not crazy about removing the crash pads or doing much cutting ..

I did remove the crash pads, but no cutting so far. It looks like I’ll need the tiniest trimming off the back of the fenders and I’ll need to relocate this wiring harness we have in the driver wheel well, which should be painless. I’ll keep you guys posted.

I also posted a picture of it in another thread if you wanna check my history.

Why not 285/75/17 Falkens (34.1” tires) - look almost as good and def would not require any trimming (although you may still need to remove crash pad).

Yeah, I've been waffling a bit on my "decision" to go to 35s. I'd like the full extra inch of clearance that going up 2" in diameter would give me, but we'll see what it takes to get there. The ~34" is a good compromise. My plan at the moment is to talk with the shop that will be working on it for me and see if we can explore the options and consequences together. I've got the Westcott Trailhunter preload collar lift arriving this Friday. And I'm having an Air Lift put on the rear to resolve the significant squat I get when towing my Airstream. I'll work with them to figure out if I even want to do the collar lift and what tires I'll end up with. I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions. Really helpful!

Bear in mind you would go from 32.6” to 34.1” and that means a full 0.75” lift. It’s significant and you’ll notice it. I think it’s the best compromise.

Also which 35s are you looking at? Flotation? 315s?

Off-topic, but what size Airstream are you towing and how does the Tacoma handle it? I've been eyeing them, but my wife is convinced we need something 23' long, and I'm wary, even if it does technically weigh in within the Tacoma's towing capacity...

Haven't decided on which ones yet. Less concerned about off road toughness and more concerned about towing safely (i.e. load rating). That said, I want good traction year round on and off road. The snow performance will probably have the most impact in terms of how often I drive in snow compared to other conditions. The KO3 and Falken AT4W are top of my list. I'm expecting to take a hit on mileage, stopping distance, etc. because of weight. Sticking with the stock wheels for now.

Hmm.. for some reason, I thought the stock tires were a true 33". Good to know!

So far, I only towed the Airstream Basecamp 20X home from the dealer (~45 minutes, mostly highway). I have a weight distribution hitch. Performance was great. Felt very stable. It was light because it was winterized at the time, so the tanks were empty and nothing loaded in it.
