What would make you happy?

Same question. You want Toyota to buy back your truck?

No. I love the truck. And I’m not super torqued up about this honestly, save for when I’m thinking about possibly getting stranded in the middle of nowhere. What would make me happy is a clear statement from Toyota explaining what the issue is and a means for me to resolve it in Houston at a dealership near my home, before I’m out in the bush with my truck that’s made to go anywhere. I am under warranty for 125k miles / 8 years but what I’d like the same confidence in the drivetrain I had with my third gen — I think Toyota could restore it with some transparency. But anyway. Moving on.

Is Toyota replacing your transmission?

No. It’s working fine (aside from the weird stuff others have mentioned).

And to be clear - it’s my daily driver and I’m not holding back. I just hate that I spent this much and am never certain about whether the transmission will explode.

Just a quick update since my last post. I’ve driven about 300 miles in the past couple days. A little deep snow and lots of freeway driving, including mountain passes in suboptimal weather. Not even a hint of an issue.

So I’m gonna assume my transmission is fine. Maybe I got some bad gas or it was a software glitch or a combination of things. Hopefully it doesn’t come back.

I just wish Toyota would be proactive about this. There has to be some way to tell if there is debris or not. From what I'm gathering it came from the Torque converters. There were a few early replacements that broke, but at the time they didn't know what was going on and didn't replace the Torque Converters, just the Transmission. From all of the Forums it seems like the issues are slowing down so we may be getting to a point where most that will fail already have. I hope so. I hate the uncertainty. Mine is fine @ 12k miles and 6 months and I've never had a rough shift.

See that’s the problem though. Failures aren’t necessarily related to hard shifts. Some trucks shift great and then randomly fail and get stuck in gear with zero prior symptoms, others like my truck shifted great for the first 500 miles and then developed all kind of weird issues, hard shifting, clunky downshifts, shudders and vibrations at low speeds, hard engagement into reverse etc etc and zero codes stored in my trucks computer and obviously no check engine light. So basically Toyota has done absolutely nothing for the people in my camp that are stuck with transmissions that clearly have an issue but there’s zero resolution for it
