Car companies always pay lower labor rates for warranty work than what dealers charge customers. They are willing to let dealers rob you, but not them.

That is why dealers only do warranty work when they have to, because it cuts into their profits. So I doubt the dealer will make lot of money made even on a $27k repair.

My 2024 Trailhunter had a transmission failure this morning with 750 miles on it, and my VIN was almost 3,000 after the published VIN on T-SB. The hybrid module assembly was included in the estimate (that alone is priced at over $19,000).

Shifted the car into R following a very cold morning start and the truck shuddered for a few seconds. Following the shudder, no backward movement even though truck was still in R. Finally got it to back up and no transmission engagement when shifted to D. Shifted to P and then D and transmission engaged but would not shift out of 1st gear - tried accelerating to 4500 rpm and still no shift. Following a bit of a meltdown/venting call to the dealership, I turned the car off and on 2-3 times and the transmission started shifting. I was 1.5 hours away from the nearest Toyota dealership and drove it there with every warning message under the sun cycling through my instrument cluster - they got my truck in right away and gave me the bad news. Thankfully it's obviously under warranty because they told me the entire repair will cost north of $27k!

Never posted here before and haven't read through this entire thread. Just wanted to share my experience with the failure. I love the Trailhunter and am hoping that this is the last catastrophic event with it.

Mo/Year of MFG is on the sticker attached to the driver's side rear door jamb, along with the tire pressure settings.

Thanks Olaf. I'll probably stop at the dealership next week to check on progress and I'll check the date then. According to the VIN it was number 9261 produced

Best of luck at the dealer. You might think about, given the dealer-documented symptoms and the TSB that applies to earlier VIN #'s, asking the dealer under warranty to pull the transmission pan and look for debris. Consider asking the dealer to get authorization and to tell the warranty center what your symptoms were. They might just say "yes". Then be there when the pan comes off and ask to look yourself. If debris found, then ask them to extend the TSB to your vehicle. If they say no, you could file an arbitration case. It's easy - look in the Toyota Warranty manual.

'Just some thoughts to consider. Good luck to you. (You might also buy via AMZ an OBDCII reader (Blue Driver is good) and carry that around with you to document codes yourself in case this happens again, Gof forbid. Again, just a thought that might help.
