Traded in my 2019 access cab for a new Limited package truck. This is my third Taco (1st generation Limited, and the TRD Off Road I traded in). My other two came with sharp allow wheels as part of the trim packages and I kind of take them for granted on higher level trucks. The new Limited was a bit of a spontaneous decision after the wife rode in it and fell in love with the improved ride and comfort, so I took advantage. Overall very happy and still a loyal Tacoma devotee but when did to become acceptable to put the equivalent of hub caps on a $55K truck?
I’m curious If anyone else is a bit aghast that one of the top trim packages has wheel covers vs. attractive alloy wheels.
More importantly, can anyone advise me what is under the wheel covers and if the bare wheels are attractive to save me figuring out how to remove them just to see? just looking for alternatives in case I find I can’t convince myself to settle for the chrome hub cap look without investing another grand or so into other wheels.

Putting plastic covered wheels on a limited is shameful.

I plasti-dipped mine as a temporary measure.

Getting the factory plastic and adhesive off will be a big challenge - i think.

The Trailhunter hunter spare wheel looks like the limited wheel without the plastic.

The chrome is a bit much on this truck, but it’s literally in the same places as on other brands—mirror caps, wheels, door handles, and the lower front valance. It really seems to stand out more on the Tacoma compared to other brands, in my opinion.

I’ll have to wait until spring, but I’ve been brainstorming options to tone down the chrome. You’ve already seen my grill ideas, and I plan to do the same with the wheels as a temporary solution to decide if I want to keep them.

We definitely need someone to sacrifice a limited wheel to see if removing the plastic is an option. If it looks like the TH spare, I’m all in.

The new Tacoma was my first….and last. They’ll be people defending yota for this however for some crazy reason. I’ve actually thought about this a lot why yota could literally piss on people and they’d be like hell yea. They could sell their new trucks with 3 wheels and make customers buy the 4th and there would still be some that are like oh fawk yea this is awesome. There’s goes be some that break that mold such as yourself that have to speak up and be like hell the f no.

Fellow Limited Owners: Does anyone know if the Limited trims also fit the same after market wheels and tires as TRD Offroads?

I want to run 17x8.5 +35mm offset wheels with 285/70/R17 tires which is the most common size for the TRD OR without any mods, but I haven't seen anyone running them on the limited yet.

I also have the AVS suspension but not sure if that will affect fitment.

I took the plunge and pulled a cover from one of the wheels on my limited. They are pretty firmly attached, so some patience is required to get them off. The black finish underneath the adhesive looks pretty good, not flawless around the lugs, but probably good enough to not notice from more than a foot or two away. Haven't tried fully removing the adhesive yet, but shouldn't be too hard with some solvent. One note, the center caps from the covers are too small for the opening in the alloy wheel itself. Will need to source larger diameter covers or 3d print an adapter ring.

WOW...I also have a Limited and was totally under the impression that it was (LIKE THE BROCHURE SAYS) as well as the window sticker that they were Chrome Finished Alloy Wheels, not chrome finished hubcaps on alloy wheels. Can anyone say class action lawsuit for misrepresentation.....

The actual 2024 Tacoma limited spec sheet also states a full size spare is standard!

You sir, are the man! I wonder if heat would soften the glue enough to help remove it.

The only wheels I hated more than the ones that came with my SR5 were the limited chrome wheels. My solution was to buy a set of TRD sport wheels off of Facebook marketplace. A set of wheels and tires will set you back $650 or so.

Depends on location. Not in my area.
