Hey, I have about 5000km on my TRD Sports 6M. Now and then, I get a different smell throughout the cabin, I have smelt it few times, but it seems I smell it most if I hit the accelerator hard for a second. Can anyone tell me what this could be and if it's a concern, is it just something getting broken in? Seems weird since I am at 5000km but I also have never had a truck before. I can't describe the scent and I can't really bring it to the garage because it's not easy to replicate, it's only now and then that I smell it.

I'm at 2.500 miles and I'm pretty confident I smell burning oil. I'll have them look at it at the 5,000 mile check. If it blows up before then, good. It gives me a good excuse to get out of this POS.

I also had a burning oil smell the first 4-5k miles. Only smelled it when I was at a stop or when I parked in my garage. Talked to dealership about it and they said it’s normal break in and it would go away around 5k and oddly enough, it went away right around that mileage. Have 9k now and no more burning smell.

Ive owned every generation Tacoma, new. Every one had a puff of oil smell upon startup in the cold weather. They all disappeared after the engine gathered miles and broke in.

Why do you think this trucks a POS? Just curious. This has been the best Tacoma out of all the generations, in my opinion.

Dont read that internet social media hype. I truly believe all the negativity im reading is a combination of fake accounts from other manufactures trying to sway buyers (this is a real thing on social media) and 2021-2023 Tacoma buyers who just hate that a new model came out and theyre not the cool kid on the block anymore. So they have to justify in their minds that the new truck is shit so they dont feel bad.

Literally the majority of the shit i read is made up. Or has no backing. Weird

I'm not reading anything to come to that conclusion, I'm driving it. Anywhere from screens going dead, oil smells, tiny gas tanks, cramped seating, sloppy transmission, unrefined engine, terrible efficiency, rattling glove box, misigned tailgate, poor acceleration....it's just not a nice ride at all. Has it blown up? No. I'm inloading it soon though.

Some things are subjective, others are not opinion, just plain fact.

Definitely Interesting, man. I have the opposite experience. Screens work fine, Oil nothing out of the ordinary for a new engine as i mentioned, Gas tank seems appropriately sized for a small truck?, Seating is better than the third gen (Its purposely a small truck), Transmission is fire compared to any previous tacoma, Efficiency is better than the 3rds (Its a truck), Rattling does suck (could be fixed easy), my tailgate seems fine, Acceleration is way better than the 3rd gens and the torque peaks at 1700 rpms, which is bonkers for a gas engine..... and the ride is light years beyond the 3rd gen.....So,

My question is then.....why did you buy it? lol Alot of these issues you seem to have wouldve stood out in your test drive. I guess theres no point in debating this with a random stranger, but...i guess to each their own.

I freakin love mine. Lol

Are you incapable of understanding some people may have a different experience and different needs? Comparing anything to that 3rd gen truck is not exactly a good comparison. Of course it has a better ride than the 3rd gen, a garden cart has a better ride than the 3rd gen. I previously stated my point of view without attacking anyone, you should try it.

Efficiency is nearly identical to the 3rd gen, and they're doing that with a 4cyl turbo that feels like it's about to have a heart attack. Is it really a truck? I didnt know that, thank you.

The gas tank....you're Ok getting 270 miles to a tank of gas? Most EVs do better than that and people still get range anxiety, lol

Rattling...sure, anything can be fixed, does that justify it's need to be fixed?

Transmission...again, you're comparing to a vehicle that historically had one of the poorest performing transmissions in the history of the automobile, lol. Of course its better than that transmission, does that make it good?

I bought it because I needed a truck, I preferred a mid-sized, and I thought this was the best mid-sized truck out there. Notice, I didnt say I loved it, it just seemed to be the best available. I'm not sure what truck on the market is better, I just know this thing has been a huge disappointment.

It's actually pretty easy to disprove your argument. Try to trade yours in....they dont even want them. The new Tacomas are overflowing dealer lots, they're slashing prices and offering leases....still sitting. Dealers certainly dont want to try to move a used one.

Anyway... I do get some engine smell every once in awhile... When accelerating in the morning especially when it's cold usually under 25—30° Not every morning but maybe once a week... Maybe sometimes Im accelerating to fast? I have 5,250 miles did my first oil change at 2500mi....Thoughts?

Edit* I always warm the truck for 10 minutes when it's cold out then I take off... Sometimes that first shift 1-2nd is rough

Anyway...you already know you should be concerned. They're not good trucks, don't listen to the denial crew in here.
