I suppose ill chime in , there are great points posted by many, and the way i see it is everyone has different needs and tastes , again just my 2 cents but i think toyota was wrong in allowing all the crazy “Port adds “ on the launch of the 4G . With the understanding that they want to get as many trucks on the dealer lots as fast as possible , Some of the add ons are kind of wasteful , again some have no time and just want the truck and take what it comes with. Would be nice if we could go to dealership , order the specific truck level we want, …then specify what added options we would like. I know it isnt possible , but the guy that wants the extra cab, manual trans, with lockers and nothing else is kind off waiting and has to settle, or the guy that wants a TRD, Offroad hybrid , with no add ons ? I suppose this has kept toyota in the game and like many of us we just have to be happy with what we can settle for. This in my opinion is working for toyota and it will continue, i do notice many dealers ar now showing sports and offroads with the $ 4000.00 option compared to the $. 8000, ? Then i sit here and cross my fingers i get news off the truck i put money on will finally get in production, lol. TRD Offroad, hybrid Bronze oxide …its a waiting game and some days i get anxiety waiting for dealer to give me my “Build vin.

Regarding the wireless charger, I picked this up from a guy on Etsy. Add an apple magsafe charger and you have a wireless charger in your sr5, or a 2nd one in your upgrade package taco.

We all know about the difficulties in connecting to Android & CarPlay and things like that. But what are some omissions (at least in some trims) that Toyota could have done easily but chose not to? For me here are some things that are slightly annoying (on my SR5):

1) The passenger grab handle doesn’t go all the way through. Kind of defeats the purpose, at least for the vertically challenged to use to help get in.

2) No power outlet in the armrest compartment. I think some versions have this, but would it have killed them to add in a USB-C port or two in there?

3) Non-locking gas cap in some versions. This should be a no-brainer especially in 2024!

4) Rain sensing wipers. Not a hard add given all the other tech that’s right up against the windshield even in the lower trims.

5) No ability to use touch to lock & unlock the vehicle from the tailgate. I would use this on an almost daily basis.

6) Non-dual heating & cooling on some models. Why isn’t dual climate control not standard? Seems like an easy thing to do.

7) A larger fuel tank. Not a lot more, but could we at least put enough gas in there to comfortably go 300 miles on a tank?

8) LED front turn signal bulbs!

9) I wasn’t going to mention the infotainment system, but WHY can’t there be an option for adjusting the volume of the JBL center channel? It’s way too prominent and the only way to deal with it is to move the balance slightly rear and put the mid-range settings wayyyy down.

10) No turn signal indicator/lighting on both rearview mirrors. Even my 2013 Acura has this.

11) Finally, a bit controversial since some really like the idea of a bone-basic truck, but why not include power seats on the SR5? It can’t be that much more than the cost of having to run 2-3 different seat-types across all the versions? I get for some that it’s “just something else that could break” but the tech has been around for SO LONG that it’s pretty much bullet-proof by now.

OK – Rant over. Do you agree? Disagree? What did I miss???
For your item #5, does the button not also unlock the tailgate/vehicle?...

My point was more that you cannot lock or unlock the vehicle from the tailgate area in models without power tailgates. I have an SR5 but I'm assuming most models do not come with "Button 2" in the pic above. And so what I'm saying is regardless of if you have a power tailgate or not you should be able to lock/unlock the truck from that area without having to pull out the key and manually unlocking everything.

Pretty much everything I listed might be on one model or another but my point the incremental cost of adding it in would be minimal if it were made standard on the platform. My Acura and 2010 RAV4 both have manual tailgates and you can lock/unlock all the doors from that area without having to use the key (aka button 2).

@saerandy I agree. I was lucky enough to buy a trim with everything available this time, but usually I would go for the value models, like your SR5.

In the past every Tacoma trim came with all of the essentials and the more you paid the more toys you got. But that seems to have changed with the 4th gen and Toyota definitely left things off of non-halo trims that should be on every truck IMO.

I don't know who did your dealer prep, but they failed. That plastic sticky sheet covering your shifter display is supposed to be peeled off during dealer prep.

Did they leave it on other places? Your whole dash is usually covered with that stuff and it's all supposed to be gone when you pick it up.

Funny story about this... my friend had a Lexus that was about 5 years old and we were going out to lunch in it one day. I'd noticed before that his whole dash had the sticky protective covering on it and I finally asked him why he left it on. He asked, "What protective cover?" I made sure that he was OK with me taking it off and then I peeled it off across his whole fake burled wood dash. It was around his radio, on all of the buttons and around the dash cowl too. When I was done, his dash looked brand new. :) :)

Here is something different. I have the rear view mirror camera, so its a camera outside view. Why have rear defrost as standard? I have yet to turn my rear defrost on

It’s not like I havent’ noticed that, in fact, I choose to leave it in place In the same way i leave the winshield registration sticker on too. I was actually bummed that they peeled the drivers data notice sticker and the screen protector off the infotainment screen.

I can peel those stickers anything I want down the road and have it look new.
