Trail Terrains poor in the snow

Anyone else not impressed with the Trail Terrain’s in the snow? I didn’t realize that the OEM version isn’t three peak certified. I hate to take off perfectly good tires but may look to upgrade to some 33 in. KO3s sooner rather than later.

I agree.... I wasn't planning on switching to different tires but these slide all over the place on the snow/ice.... Definitely not as good as I hoped they would be....

We had a sleet/snowstorm last week, 9 inches. I have a TRD Sport 4WD with the OEM Michelin primacy tires. I wasn't expecting much, but was surprised how well the truck did in 4WD, and even switching to 2WD on some hills. Yeah, there was some slipping there, but immediately went away when switching to 4WD.

Yep, replaced them with Nokian’s.

Nokian Hakkapelitta LT3 studded snows- lighter than stock tires, and are fantastic in the snow. They come in unstudded as well. Was just powering through 7-8" deep stuff, 3-4"slushy crap and over the ice. Very good snow tires.

I was going to test mine yesterday but decided I really didn’t need to go anywhere. Thanks for the heads up they suck.

You'll be happy with the KO3's. I live in central VT, and drive in the snow on a regular basis. KO3's have been working great. Deep snow, slush, heavy snow, whatever.

What did you do for the spare, assuming you increased the size when upgrading?

I stayed the same size…275/70r17 in a Standard Load, soI left the spare alone. The Wildpeaks are 10lbs heavier per tire, so I didn’t want to go bigger. Plus, for my purposes these tires and size are perfect. They are slightly bigger in diameter due to their AT characteristics and look higher due to lug pattern. Like I said, perfect for what I do, which is mainly towing my teardrop. I just trader my Ranger Tremor edition for my Tacoma, so more modifications to come.

Love the teardrop! This is my first Tacoma, the aftermarket and endless opportunities to modify your ride and make it your own have my wallet trembling. This forum is dangerous.
