What is this light on the headliner?

This is the most fancy toyota truck ever made. It’s just bright when I’m driving in super dark areas. I may fashion some kind of cover that I can open and close.

That’s what I was thinking. I thought it was maybe something important not to fuck with but now I feel dumb for not knowing what it was.

It’s nice to have a little light when needed, but would be nice to turn it off too. My wife’s Mini has the option to turn it off, sometimes in really dark situations it’s good to have no or very low interior lights.

I would prefer a red bulb for this specific light. Audi runs a red light and it is much better in my opinion, since it doesn’t ruin night vision

I agree that it would be nice to be able to turn this off in a truck made for off roading. Maybe someone will post a digital design for a simple 3D printable cover.

In more brightly lit driving environments I like the little extra light it provides. Some vehicles today have ambient lighting all over the place, which I sometimes find distracting. However those systems do give you the choice to turn them off in the vehicles that I have driven.

I was wondering what that little light was for a couple days ago. It doesn't bother me all that much. The worst light for me at night is the bright blue "D" next to the shifter. I tried putting a "light dims" sticker over it but then you can't see the letter during the day which seems like it could be confusing if my wife ever borrows my truck...

…or just put a small sliver of electrical tape even a Tacoma heritage sticker across it. At least it only comes on when the headlights are on. When I did my Meso map light upgrade, I just unplugged it and it wasn’t as much of a big deal anymore. I don’t like how bright my dash is or the rear seatbelt warning light is so I turned them down and unplugged that too (relatively)… especially since I don’t have anyone in the back and until I get my tonneau in, I put my bug out gear and ACLS/IFAK gear in the back seat.

Not sure this was mentioned, but the brightness of that lamp tracks with the cluster brightness. I have mine turned down for night driving and find that LED in the headliner is just pleasant enough.
