Three days after I installed the ARB left side recovery mount the soft shackle showed up.

Playing around with it it dawned on me that it can be used around the trailer hitch frame. Kind of eliminating the need for the mount.

An opportunity to save a couple hundred bucks! Story of my life.

I think he's suggesting that you can forgo buying the recovery points and just get some soft shackles. The hitch frame is nicely rounded near the ends. However, there are some flat plates welded to it near there that are rather sharp and could cut the shackles if they slide much.
I'm planning to get a recover hitch receiver myself. I'm also planning to avoid any serious "stucks" like the plague.
Not sure what I'll do about the front. I think the weak point is going the be the frame so buying a thick chunk of metal and bolting it in place of the stock tow loops doesn't make much sense to me at this point.

OEM red front tow/recovery plates. It's a pair. Reuses existing factory transport bolts. `MSRP $160, can be had for around $120 at the right online shops. Part# PT974-35250

I have been meaning to look for these and found them online for $122 plus shipping.
Thanks for that part number and they already ordered.

How would the frame be the weak point? Itā€™s a fully boxed steel frame.

Crawl under and look at the metal thickness and welds on the frame vs the thickness and welds on the stock (loop) towing point. I just don't see any point in bolting a thick chunk of metal in place of the stock points. Looks like ARB is doing a wrap-around point that has multiple frame attachment points.

Yeah, Iā€™m sure the ARB are more hardy but it also appears that youā€™d need the bumper to pair with it. Iā€™m getting the OEM Toyota attachments as a little bit of truck bling, no more, no less. Theyā€™ll be used infrequently, if at all. ARB are definitely the way to go if you plan on using them frequently and are doing hard core off roading. Just ordered the OEM ones for $120 shipped though so thatā€™s hard to beat for my use case.
