I have a TRD Sport that came with the center JBL Bluetooth speaker. I was wondering if I could add a second JBL speaker and set it on the back seat. Has anyone tried this? I have an old JBL clip that was not bale to be paired with the truck but maybe a newer one could? I know while the speaker is out of the truck, the speaker can be paired with other JBL speakers.

I wanted to pair this and lay it on the back seat.

I know they can connect to other JBL flex speakers, I believe up to 100 (as in a identical models) but beyond that I can only say a lot of JBL speakers that can connect to the same model JBL will not connect to other JBLs of a different model. And I don’t know if it they have to be undocked to pair with each other.

The dock has four wires. Two charge it, and the other two provide a signal from the amplifier. When the flex speaker is installed, it is hardwired to the stereo, not connected via Bluetooth. There is no way to sync up the head unit with another JBL speaker.

I doubted that there was while docked but wasn’t certain thanks for clarifying. That being said undocked 100 will pair up, although I’ll admit it’s irrelevant because it wasn’t the question:)

You got speakers in the back built into the truck.

It's theoretically possible to wire up another JBL but like...why?

Buy a better speaker to replace the ones in the truck itself.

So technically yes but it’s not easy or cheap. You will need to order another speaker and OEM dock. They you will need to find a place to cut that dock in (not sure what your intent is). Then you need to get source audio.

So if let’s say you wanted to install one in the back of the truck over the window, you would need to fabricate or better yet, 3D print a box or some sort of mounting solution. I haven’t looked into the sub woofer but if it has an internal amp then it’s likely receiving full spectrum audio from the head unit. Then you can tap into that. If the sub has no internal amp then that’s not the way to go because it likely filtered to provide low frees only. Plus the level of your new speaker is likely going to change when the bass is increased IF the head unit actually drives that sub amp independently.

You can also tap the existing speakers audio.

Keep in mind any of this is going to effect your ability to properly balance the system and likely effect the already bad imaging and soundstage.

Thanks for thinking this through throughly and providing a solution.

I am not that dedicated to this idea to go through all that. I just thought that I could toss in a big party speaker and sync it. That way I could take it in and out of the back seat as I needed. Plus I would be ready for tailgates and bonfires.

Yeah, the stereos in the new Tacoma are not the worst factory stereos I’ve ever heard. I’m sure like anything. They can use a good subwoofer. And that’s probably gonna be something available. That’ll be plug-in. Play for underneath the seat. Give it a little bit of time.
