Trailhunter owners: 5ft vs 6ft bed decision?

For all the Trailhunter owners on the forum how many have the 6 foot bed and how many purchased the 5 foot. And what were your reasons for that purchase.. I have deposits down on a Trailhunter with a 6 and one with a 5. Waiting on both to show up. I’m kinda torn on which one I would take. You guys that have the 6 foot box is that the size you wanted for your way of using the truck.. thanks for all your feedback.

I bought a 5 foot TH for a few reasons

1. Wheelbase impacting turn radius and off-roading
2. 6 foot wouldn't fit in my garage
3. I can always use a bed extender when/if needed

Exact same reasons for me choosing 5' bed.
Also, at 6'4" a 6' bed would still not allow me to sleep straight in it with a topper.

Mine is supposed to be here at the end of the month, so we'll see, but I went with the 5 foot bed for better breakover angle and easier parking. I am coming from a civic. Never daily drove a truck before so I figure the 5 ft bed is easier for me to work with. My garage isn't cleaned out enough to use right now but having the option to park inside later is also nice.

If I wanted a shorter wheelbase would've bought an LC or 4R & built it out (next vehicle).

When I took delivery of my LB TH there was a white 5' TH parked next to mine the dealership manager was driving around as his personal vehicle. IMO the extra foot really makes the truck, optics and utility.

If I had to sweat breakover angles & getting rad on class 4+ I'd just rent a side by side and trash it for the day. My gen 4 is for long haul missions to Baja Sur, big storm trips all winter, desert in the spring & fall. Ultimately gear length & how my GFC & roof rack will integrate was the deciding factor.

IDK the exact length of this vehicle and my full size but they're both close, so I'm used to driving & parking longer rigs. The cameras on the TH are sick, perfect park job every damn time.

I have the 5ft bed because I didn’t have a choice but hindsight I am glad. The turning radius already sucks with the 5 ft. Can only imagine the 6 ft bed. Also with the 5 ft it barely fits my driveway with enough room to walk behind. 6 ft bed would be up against the garage and still sticking a little in the sidewalk.

The pictures of the 6 foot ones to me look like a normal truck..not bashing the 5 foot beds. I still have my 2016 access cab Tundra and the difference in length with the 6 foot bed and my Tundra is only around 4 or 5 inches so I have no problems with the parking. The 6 foot bed will just fit in my shop garage but the height of it keeps it from going in the house garage.. so I’m like a little kid who can’t make up my mind

That's why there is variety in choices. To accommodate a variety of people. Your truck looks nice btw!

It doesn't matter which model and we considered basic through halos, the 5 ft bed was useless for me. They can't carry what my minivan did. If I put a ladder or other test things at an angle it blew other space.

That said, my pickup won't fit in our garage. How people use these really varies. In my case it is a tool that works for transport when my wife has our car. For non-work or task stuff the bed is still vital such as occasional sleeping in it.

We took a long time considering what to get and trying lots of stuff. Do that would be my best advice.

I should have my TH with 6 foot bed in about a month. I currently have a 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro. Doing a little less serious off-roading these days and more towing a camper. Extra length will give me more room and probably even better stability with the trailer. Was going to go the Tundra route but never fell in love with it. Still absolutely love my Pro. Besides my son is getting my Pro so it can always be my Trailhunter recovery vehicle if needed. The Pro has not once failed me.

Another factor to take into consideration is the payload is like 60lbs less on the 6'.

Kind of backwards, since most of the other 6' models have the same or higher payload than their 5' counterparts.

So even though you have more space, technically you can carry less (weight).

Never considered the payload because I will never load it to max. Won’t be putting on any type of pop up either..probably the heaviest thing that will go in the bed is my Yamaha Grizzly

I swear this is one of the many things that are over represented by the online car community (e.g. buyers wanting hideous sports wagons not avail. In the US). The truth is the vast majority of people do not want nor have the need for a 6ft bed. Look at the stats it’s currently at like 16% 6ft beds. If people were actually clamoring for 6ft beds, Toyota would be cranking those out.

Eh, get a 5' and a Diamondback HD then. Can load your quad on top of the Diamondback and still have a usable bed
