2024 Tacoma TRD Pro Full Transmission Replacement After 342 Miles

I think almost all of us here are huge fans of the TRD Pro and just want to support the few buyers with problems. I for one still totally trust Toyota to treat us right and get our trucks back on the road. I have weeks yet to go until my truck arrives and I look forward to it more every day.

Same here. That loss of trust is something totally new for me with Toyota. They have some work to do IMO to get us back to having faith in their products again. But I have not yet lost my excitement about my new Pro and I do still trust them to fix this stuff. We all need to support each other...

2024 Tacoma TRD Pro Full Transmission Replacement After 342 Miles

@WhiteLightning I totally agree and I hope Toyota is on top of this, which might explain some of the QC holds we have seen. My truck was built just four days ago and I hope that they had it figured out by then. But I still trust Toyota to put you in a loaner and fix whatever does go wrong. I...

2024 Tacoma TRD Pro Full Transmission Replacement After 342 Miles

@dissapointed I just want to add that a lot of us have been sceptical of some of the claims of Tacoma failures because in the past Toyota 4x4 drivetrains were indeed bullet proof. I have owned and wheeled Toyotas for years and I have never been let down even once, let alone on the freaking drive...

So is a new driveshaft on the way? Do you have any idea how long it will take to get to you? Good luck! Keep us posted.

Choice Between Hybrid and Non-Hybrid Gasoline: What Influenced Your Decision?

I lost track of your truck hunt and it sounds like you finally snagged a hybrid Limited. I think that was a smart move because you would probably have regretted not getting the truck that you really wanted. Congrats!

@dissapointed Your issue was a failed U-Joint, right? That is the first that I have seen so far on a 4th gen. That is a really rare thing, or at least it was in the past. What has your dealer told you and what is happening with your truck? My TRD Pro is awaiting shipping, so it would help me to...

    Door edge guards options?

That is interesting @Bluznvice. I am getting PPF and I never thought about that. It will be interesting to see how my detail shop handles that on the doors. I agree that the OEM guards are nice and sturdy and they color match really well on my wife's car.

JUst for another point of reference, my temporary vin said week 28 (7/8-7/14) and my truck was built on 7/27. So it looks like they are running a couple of weeks behind schedule, and that would line up with your dealer's date. It is great to know that mine is built and now for the long wait for...

2024 Tacoma TRD Pro Full Transmission Replacement After 342 Miles

@Jcisco951 Sorry to hear about your truck. Losing gears 1-5 seems like the most common failure in this transmission. It sounds like Toyota is taking care of you, which is all I ask of any car maker. No one is perfect, but how a company handles their mistakes goes a long way to making it...

Choice Between Hybrid and Non-Hybrid Gasoline: What Influenced Your Decision?

My truck is now built but I am still waiting for it to arrive. It was a hybrid for me regardless because a Pro doesn't come any other way. But that would be my choice anyway. There is nothing wrong with the non-hybrid and it is a great engine. But I am a power junkie and I really value...

@WKTJR1 Good observation Bill. It is quite possible that Toyota's effort to save face has drawn greater scrutiny to a problem that may or may not turn out to be significant.

So to clarify av8r's arguments. The small sample size and uneven distribution of data gathered from forum posts is insufficient to say that the transmission problems are trivial. (by a miracle I agree!) But somehow these same data provide enough information for him to say that the problem is...

Trailhunter QC Holds — multiple regions

@Ruissimo Yep - I agree that the problem is the lack of transparency and poor communications, rather than the wait. I hope you get that gorgeous truck soon!

Trailhunter QC Holds — multiple regions

I read that the QC hold on Trailhunters was to replace "snorkel" gaskets that were leaking water in. Those trucks probably were built with a batch of bad gaskets and Toyota held them until they could be replaced. I know I would frustrated as hell if my truck was just sitting somewhere too. Good...

2024 Tacoma TRD Pro Full Transmission Replacement After 342 Miles

I agree @TurboTruck! If I passed up my TRD Pro allocation or gave it back it could be years until I could get another one. I would be disappointed if an expensive new truck needed a transmission replaced, but not to the point of returning it, even if I could. A transmission swap is really a...

The First 2024 Tacoma TRD PRO (Terra) in Las Vegas is Mine!

The hybrids do have stop/start, and it can't be turned off. But it is not a problem from what I have read and seen on videos. Toyota uses their experience with full hybrids to make it pretty much invisible on the i-FORCE MAX whether the engine is running or not.

Exactly. It wasn't until there was a recall that most people even knew that some vehicles were having these issues. Now when there are even a few issues it is all over the internet. I'm still glad owners like @fostuhh post so that we are aware of possible issues, and how they get resolved.
