Just over 1k miles and I had the oil changed for the first time. Dang, that filter is tiny. Glad to have it done and the break in period completed. Now I can drive up to 65, lol.

Well done, i myself am in the thinking , get that oil out, 1000 miles ā€¦.out fresh new oil time , even after another 1000 another clean out. The cheapest maintenance you can do for a good cause
of course just my opinion , been doing this way for years without issues

My TRD Pro is at the dealer now for 5,000 service. I asked the service manager about doing an oil change. He said not necessary till 10,000 miles. I'm a little uncomfortable with that but I figure if Toyota Care thinks not doing an oil change is cost effective vs a new engine, who am I to question.

Ditto. Waiting at the dealer right now on my 5000 mile service. I wanted an oil and filter change and was also told 10k. If I wanted it done anyway it was out of pocket. So, Iā€™ll wait. Still canā€™t quite get used to the life of full synthetic oil. šŸ˜

The service manager doesnā€™t have to pay if your engine fails early. In fact, itā€™s his business to profit from failures. Toyota literally doesnā€™t have an interest in what occurs outside of their warranty period because you will either pay for repairs or, if significant costs and vehicle age are involved, buy a new Toyota. Sure they care about their rep for reliability, but in aggregate, not individually.

Iā€™ve rarely found anyone in the service department to be knowledgeable in anything Automotive related. Just remember, service advisors jobs are to find work for the service department to do.

Do right by yourself, donā€™t rely on the dealer or manufacturer to act in your best interests.

Well stated @SilverSurfer. That said, to me -- oil's cheap and easy to change on these things. Mine's had 5 oil changes already and it's only @ 12.5K miles. Overkill -- sure, but hit up Costco and get yourself a lot of their good quality 0-20w synthetic and you'll be rolling in black gold like me!

idk about waiting, I mean even @The car care nut from youtube had a video on this! lol. I mean if your leasing or financing your truck and you plan on trading it in then I guess take it in at 10k (this is why I refuse to purchase a used vehicle). I took my Trialhunter at 1000k , going in at 6k and then getting my "free" Toyota Care at 10000k. Call me crazy but I like to keep my vehicles on point. lol

I did the first oil change myself at 700 miles and paid to have it changed again at the 5K service. I hope to keep this truck a long time and felt it was cheap insurance. My dealer made a note in the system that I want to change it every 5K so they don't tell me it supposed to be 10K every time.

I personally think 1k miles is a bit early, I waited until 3k miles let the engine break In let the oil filter do its job collect the particles and then change the oil. Iā€™m using amsoil signature series and a Toyota engine oil filter. The best part is you can crawl under the truck and change oil without ramps

To fully understand what happens inside a 4-cyl Toyota engine with the recommended 10K mile changes, please watch this video:

The oil was changed every 10K miles at the dealership per the recommendations. UOA's were likely normal. The car has 180K at this point. Now imagine adding on a turbo spinning between 80,000 and 250,000 rpm and the heat it generates (and then the oil sitting in there cooking until the next start-up). YMMV, but I'm team 3-4000mi change interval using OEM oil and filters. Cheap insurance.
